WHO I AM

Hello, I'm Jen Campbell. I'm an award-winning poet and bestselling author of twelve books, spanning short stories, poetry, picture books, and nonfiction.

My books for adults include The Beginning of the World in the Middle of the Night, The Girl Aquarium, The Bookshop Book, and The Sunday Times bestselling Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops series. My picture book trilogy Franklin and Luna, and my middle-grade book The Sister Who Ate Her Brothers, are published by Thames & Hudson.

I've won both an Eric Gregory Award and the Jane Martin Poetry Prize, my books have been translated into twenty languages, and I have two new titles forthcoming in 2023 — more details on those soon.

I've worked in the publishing industry for over fifteen years, initially as a bookseller, and now as a freelance editor, content creator and disability advocate. I review books online, in print and on the radio. I run a Youtube channel where I talk about books, the history of fairy tales, and the representation of disability and disfigurement. I also offer online writing workshops and editorial services, give talks at schools, publishing companies, universities and book festivals on a variety of topics, and I run a book club for TOAST clothing.

Thanks for the plug, Jen - glad it reached you. We're defo ordering your Marceline. I'm writing an HC Big Cat too. Intriguing, trying to write longer. (And by 'intriguing' I mean 'hard' 😂) J

I'm looking forward to your Jhalak prize reading vlog so much! That prize is my favourite along with the Women's Prize, those are the only ones where almost anything on their long/shortlists ends up on my TBR

Foster is beyond wonderful. I cried at the end; then cried again when I saw The Quiet Girl, the movie based on it.

I'm so excited you picked up a book by a bulgarian author (where I'm from), because our literature is so rarely translated or picked up by reviewers. I haven't read it yet myself but I hope you enjoy it and the tiny font won't make it impossible to read for you ..

Yes, the ❤️NEW WIG❤️
Wonderful color❣️
I might have to gift Marcelline to a 5-year old for his parents to read to him ahead of his reaching appropriate age. His most favorite books are his 3 Franklin & Luna from me, which I was happy to hear.

Oh, literally just returned "The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels" to the library today - here in Munich! I'm so impressed that my German library had a book before you hauled it, that basically never happens. I just wish I had been as impressed with the book 😅 Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it though.

As for what I took out: Anna Burns' German publisher is going through her backlist, so I picked up her debut "No Bones" in the German translation titled "Amelia". I adored "Milkman", so can't wait to dive into her earlier work.

Oh my gosh I want so many of those! I've already bought Permafrost, and found Will and Testament is included on Audible here in Australia! So that's gone straight to my library, and I just bought Blind Spot on audible too, only 2.5 hours. I'll be looking out for The Other Mothers and Cleaner later in the year, they both sound great. As does your Marceline, will that be published in Australia do you know?
