To be honest, Jen, I’m just here for the ongoing ‘will Jen find a new favourite mystery author’ subplot...and the baking 😌

I use French flaps in much the same way - they always felt like an in-built bookmark. A lot of these sound quite interesting, but Mrs Death Misses Death is the one that keeps piquing my interest. I started reading Kumukanda this afternoon, and am impressed with the poems within, therefore I'm interested in A Blood Condition as well.

After not talking to anyone properly in a year, I welcome word vomit, so don't worry :') That definitely sounded less gross in my head...
Slam poetry terrifies yet fascinates me aha, Mrs Death Misses Death sounds great! <3 I also did a haul as soon as bookshops opened, I'm most excited for Dead Girls by Selva Almada <3

I just took Fiona Murphy’s course for aspiring disabled writers. She’s lovely and a great mentor- so excited to read her memoir.

I recently found your channel and have been enjoying it immensely!! I heard about “French flaps” just a few days ago from another booktuber! I never knew there was a name for those flaps and I love them, as they bookmark my starts and finishes!! Have a great day! ☀️

The Shape of Sound makes me think about the film Sound of Metal, which I find really interesting, I'll add that book to my wishlist in hopes of reading it soon!

I always wonder that about French flaps! They are usually on skinner books that suit the use of them as bookmarks, too!

Jen, so many amazing selections! Thank you for another enrapturing video. AND, I love your necklace! I went back in time and re-watched your video on "Peter Pan" the other day and am presently in search of an early edition of the book here in the US, though I might check out some bookstores in London as I'd prefer a copy from whence it was written.

Yes! I read The Dangers of Smoking in Bed recently and there were some fantastic stories, especially the one mentioned in the blurb about the returning children. I loved The Things We Lost in the Fire more overall but still really liked this collection.

Just got a copy of Mrs Death Misses Death after I read Pessimism is for Lightweights and adored it. Can't wait to read it x

i really do think you're going to enjoy Mariana Enríquez book, it feels like the kind of argentinian urban legends you grow up hearing if you went camping or stayed up late in someone's house if it was somewhere kind of isolated

I've been wanting to read Mrs Death Misses Death for a while but I think your story about Saleena Godden has shot it up on my priority list. And The Dangers of Smoking in Bed? Yes, please. Yes, yes, More, more.

French flaps: intended as a place to put all of the synopsis/blurb stuff you would put on a hardcover jacket (instead of on the back of the book, which is still where many people prefer it but it rarely is), but can be used as a book mark (much like the dust jacket flaps), although I find that cumbersome myself.

Additionally, as a library worker, I great to hate French flaps because they often get unfolded and damaged in the route chute.
