Steven, I believe the light fires every time you change the model light setting (and strobe intensity) per Neewer programing in the light. By doing that, the strobe discharges the "old" setting and then recharges to the new setting. If it didn't do this, the first fire after a setting change, would be different than what you intended as the strobe was charged to the "old" setting. So, this isn't a fault, but an advantage. It may be annoying for your subjects, but helps you with consistent results. Shame on Neewer for not providing better documentation on this. I found it when researching competitors that explained it far better - and it makes sense - so I expect - that is what is happening.

Hey :)
Thank you for the update!
I have the Neewer S-300N strobes which are similar but they have bigger bulbs. I love them!
The strobe firing when you decrease the power is a normal function. This is because the capacitor inside that holds the charge before sending it to the bulb needs to discharge some of the power when you stop down the power. The easiest and safest way for it to do this is to send it's full charge to the bulb resulting in a flash. I'm sure there are other ways to achieve this, but discharging another way would most likely result in heat build up inside the unit.
Just be assured that this is definitely not a fault :)
I also get around the other strobes firing by using a radio trigger for each one and switching off the light trigger.
Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the updated review.
It has been my experience that taking multiple photos in rapid succession (rapid is defined differently with different strobes) that I will eventually get an underexposed photo. It is almost as if the recharge time gets a little bit longer the more I make the strobe work. I have succeeded in doing this with every strobe I have ever used ( I will admit that I have never used any of the super fancy gear). I generally test new strobes by rapidly taking photos of the same subject until I get an underexposed photo, this tells me the "recharge buffer" of the strobe, and I keep that in mind as I shoot. It may not be the same situation with your strobes, but it has worked for me.

Can't hear the guy over the music. Anyone have any idea what he said?

FYI; When you turn the power down on a monolight it will discharge the capacitor (flash), it it didn't do that the next picture you took wouldn't be at the lower power level.

It looks like on your underexposed shoots, it’s just you out running the light. Taking shots too quickly in a row before they are fully ready. I’ve used $1000 lights that do that as well. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Actually you don’t help me because I don’t see any results, just your words.

The first shoot I did with these lights, my light meter said f/11, and when I shot, the image was black. I had to open all the way to f/1.8 to get an underexposed image. I ended up using a regular flash to finish my shoot. It was embarrassing, but the model was 100% understanding!

I too missed what was said because of the music. Both examples looked underexposed, have you managed to shoot correctly exposed with these? Thanks

Wish you showed us some photos that came out with the correct exposure.

Hi, I see from your YouTube video that you're using shot-through umbrellas. However, how do you attach a softbox or beauty dish to the front if these strobes as they appear to have no mounts, and what size reflector fit of the front?
Many thanks in advance.

Does the Neewer N300w work with Canon Cameras? It doesn't state which camera its used for when using the trigger
