More gator interactions are expected this time of year, with it being mating season. Sometimes, however, gators look for love in all the wrong places. Researchers with the University of Florida and Center College in Kentucky say it's not the gator's fault most of the time.

FOX 13 Tampa Bay brings you the important videos like breaking news, Tampa Bay weather, and local stories. But also plenty of fun stuff, like 'We Live Here' tips, the best of our archives, and all those 'only-in-Florida' stories.

We always say, if there is water, there is a gator.
Yet, those gators like to move from lake to lake.
My neighbor had a huge gator under her car one day.
One day there was one under my husband's trailer, one day there was one in my rose bush at my front porch.

Lol "risky human behavior" is just a nice way of saying "human stupidity." You are not a smart person if you see what is basically a modern dinosaur, and you do something other than avoid disturbing it.

Yall need therapy. First you say its the humans fault for the bites, then you say being anywhere near the gators is provocation. Florida lets them breed continuously and killing them is illegal and housing and lakes are everywhere, so by default, humans and gators are going to be in contact. I remember when this state had more sense, not much, but now its beyond the beyonds.

That is true and when you add your dog in the mix at the water's edge you're just inviting a big lizard to come after you

if i lived in Florida i would not have any brush in my yard and have a 12 ft tall fence (yes i know they can climb fences) around my property. WITH cameras so i can see if anything approaches my home

As a Canadian who visited Florida many times, gators are not dangerous. My aunt lived in a gated community with a few gators. A massive gator walked up the middle of the road, bigger than any I've seen at Bush Gardens....Massive. She laughed and said his name is George, no big deal just let him be. He walked by within 10 feet of me and didn't care at all. These are not crocodiles, you would have to swim with him to get bit.

Scarest experience jumping off a dock not knowing there was an alligator under the dock. I think I walked on water that day. Water Moccasins too. 🐊 💦 Way down upon the Swannee River 💦🐊
