It takes hundreds of years for coral reefs to grow. Scientists found a way to do it in months

“We lose more coral reefs in one day than we can restore in a decade,” climate scientist Dr. Deborah Brosnan says. But now, her team has found a way to build stronger and more resilient reefs that are seeing new life within just a few months.

This is how the reefing community does it. We’ve been fragging and trading corals to grow into massive colonies for 20+ years now. A lot of information we’ve learned about how to keep coral healthy has come from hobbyists.

And most corals grow far faster than people think. It’s the brain corals that grow incredibly slow. But basic corals like birds nest or a montipora can grow a foot or more a year.
