The bit about Annabeth fearing spiders was actually a clever use of "tell, donxt show", as Luke used it to explain a metaphor instead of just saying it like a random factoid.

Poseidon surrendering to Zeus at the risk of being shamed by him and all the other gods, just to save Percy, was the reason they changed it so the solstice was passed and the war was still going to happen regardless of Percy returning the bolt. It gave more meaning to Poseidon’s love for his son.

“He slashed the sword and disappeared into a ripple of darkness.” I believe this means that Backbiter did have the ability to open portals, it was just less obvious in the books.

I actually liked the way that Luke told Percy about Annabeth's fear of spiders. It was very natural dialogue that didn't feel like exposition, it just felt like a tiny fun-fact about Annabeth that helped to demonstrate the idea he wanted to convey. If he just said "You know how spiders are scary and small?, " it would still be a good metaphor to demonstrate his point, but adding the fact that ANNABETH is afraid of spiders made it more personal to him, Percy, and the audience. In my opinion, that's an example of great writing!

I appreciate them giving Luke more characterization and screen time, since in the books we see almost nothing of him before he starts poisoning and killing people.

With this version you can see that his intentions are good and that he's not a bad guy, which will make his eventual descent into a complete villain even more tragic.

12:54 to be fair there is a mention in the first book that A “ripple in the air” was created when Luke slashed his sword which he does use in the books to escape camp half blood. It’s just the book it’s not clear if it’s Luke’s power or the power of the sword. In the tv show it’s just explicitly a power of Backbiter.

The reason why Percy failing the quest is more meaningful in the show is because now both Luke and Percy failed their quests from the gods. Luke got pity while Percy got glory. Also makes it more interesting for book readers to make that change.

I was too young to see the Harry Potter adaptations in real time, the last one came out when i was five. The fact that i get to see Percy Jackson come to the screen in real time is gonna be one of my favorite memories of my late teen years, im so happy that the series came out at a time when I could experience the excitement of seeing a series I love coming to the screen in real time. I’ve been a fan of the books since 2015, so it’s been a long wait, but so worth it to see the lightning thief get the adaptation it deserves. Shout out to Disney and rick riordan for this memory, and hopefully many more. Even with just one season, this is an experience I will never forget. Hope y’all enjoyed it as much as i did, and peace out till sea of monsters

I didn’t expect them to have changed Luke’s betrayal scene from the pit scorpion, but I honestly think it was more impactful and safe to say the moment I realised that Annabeth threw her dagger, which is also *the* dagger, I immediately broke into tears. Leah’s delivery of ‘I heard everything’ breaks me

When Percy called Kronos "Grandpa" I absolutely died laughing, that was brilliant XD

also, yes Backbiter did have that power in the book, it was just very throwaway. When Luke left poisoned Percy, he slashed backbiter through the air and vanished. Theyve just expanded on that a bit

12:56 about Backbiter’s “new power”, it’s not strictly a new power. It seems to be the show’s interpretation of Luke slashing the sword midair and teleporting away in the book. Also, I like to think of it as Kronos’ scythe (which is Backbiter’s true form) making ripples in time and space.

One of the creators of the series mentioned the reason they made the change where Percy doesn't make the deadline for the quest. It was because they wanted Percy to return the bolt even when he wasn't obligated to anymore, which makes him seem more heroic and helps with his character development of not running away from his problems anymore.

In an interview, one of the showrunners explained that "I thought there was something interesting about removing all of Percy's obligation to do the right thing and seeing him confront that. Even absent this sacred responsibility to move forward, there's a different kind of responsibility."

RIP to Lance Reddick, it was great to see him as Zeus, given how long I’ve been a fan of his work as Zavala. He’ll be missed for sure

There were a few hiccups but all in all this was a phenomenal first season.
Hopefully it gets renewed soon.

Percy failing on his first mission is a pretty good reason for not letting him be the one who goes on the next mission to retrieve the golden fleece/Grover in the next season

"I didnt think youd give them to grover to wear". Although Ive read the books and knew luke was the traitor, that line still sent chills down my spine. What an awesome way to reveal the twist, along with both actors really showing how they both dont want to be admitting the truth because they really are friends with them tearing up during the conversation and reveal. Was hoping annabeth had a bit more of a reaction though

One of my favorite things that this series changed from the book was Luke. Instead of Annabeth being Percy’s guide to life at Camp it was Luke which I think made his betrayal sting more and made Percy developing a friendship with Annabeth more meaningful. Also, the scene with Zeus disappointed me because we’re not going to be able to see this perfect portrayal again. R.I.P Lance Reddick.

The fact that Gabe lifted up a literal severed head to get a better look and immediately got turned to stone will never not be funny. 😂😂😂
