about the de-aging thing, it made it so much more believable to me that he was terminally sick with him looking older. i enjoyed it

Why is the fantasy sequence secretly the most revealing part of John's character? Because even in his fantasies, he imagines his subject will fail. Because deep down, more than he could ever admit, John wants to see his victims suffer.

2:53 I think it was extremely smart to not use de-aging technology for this movie. De-aging them for the entire movie would have been a huge hit to the budget and might not have even turned out well. It wasnt a big deal and didnt hinder my enjoyment of the movie at all, I was just excited to see the big 3 back.

I agree with you about that leg trap, and I think it was so brutal because of the acting from the woman in the trap was so realistic. Like she really sold it tbh and I also had to look away lol

I was surprised how good this movie was. [SPOILER] Not mentioned, but I liked the little fake out trap sequence on the hospital janitor who was stealing from patients. But you realize that John was just thinking about it.

I was going nuts in the theatre for this movie. The woman that sawed her leg I was actually rooting for her because she was that close. That was a lot of pain. I didn't feel bad for her at all till she started sawing. So good! I loved it. I didn't see the throat cancer guy coming BUT I did see them getting caught in the room where he said the money was.

I think the twist being predictable is one of the reasons this movie was a lot better than the rest of them for me. If you're paying attention, you will be able to put the pieces together to figure out the end. It rewards you as a viewer for paying attention and that's one of the best things any movie can do.

after the whole billy loomis thing in the new scream movies i’m so glad they didn’t de-age kramer, amanda, or hoffman.

One thing I really liked about this movie is that while it makes you sympathize with john more, it doesn't get rid of the fact that his god complex is really at work here. He was pretty much ready to stop trapping people (via the park scene) and 'testing' people just because HE finally felt free of his problems. It was never actually about the principle, it was always about john.

This movie is so layered and complex, and has made my appreciation for the characters of john kramer and amanda SHOOT up. loved it so much

I like it when John isn't a hypocrite and actually want his victims to make it. Those unwinnable traps that began to appear in Saw III ruined everything for me.

I really, really enjoyed the quiet moments involving John in the first parts of the movie (him fixing Carlos' bike, or looking out into the hills after believing he was cured).

This is the first time since the 6th SAW movie that I genuinely enjoyed the story as a whole and wasn’t just in it for the traps. I was so bored of the detective storyline, this was a really nice change. Definitely my new favorite SAW movie.

John was already an old guy with cancer, I can deal with him looking a bit older, agree no point in wasting money deaging

Actually to me, in the timeline, it made sense John Kramer looked this old, he technically is closed here to dying from his terminal cancer than in any other movie, so he should be a lot weaker.

I love how much Jigsaw we got, the moral debates with Amanda, the anger as he engages the victims, the dialogue was just so good!

As for the traps, I agree, that one was crazy and most intense, when that leg dropped, it was absolutely horrific. The brain stuff though, oh boy, that was one of those traps you yell at for being unfair to let's say Amanda's trap. It was hard to watch for me. But I think this movie did really well in balancing the brutality between each trap.

I love how Kramer admitted it was a huge miscalculation about the child, and as messed up as that was, I absolutely love they went that hard. John's phrase to that kid afterwards, I teared up, haha!

Never fainted at a horror film before but the leg scene GOT me in the cinema. Had to leave and hit the deck while walking out 😭 Amazing film 10/10

You are literally the first reviewer that made it clear that this movie fits between #1 and #2....thanks for that.

Thank you for talking about the leg trap! Not a single review I’ve seen has mentioned it and I also thought it was the most brutal trap they’ve ever done! I rarely get reactions to gore but that scene literally had me shaking and gasping! I almost had to look away. Her reaction was so realistic too, she did a great job.

The thing that I both simultaneously love and hate about Saw, is I can’t separate John Kramer from Tobin Bell. He just seems like such a sweet, genuine man, and it’s impossible for me to not be sympathetic toward John Kramer even when he’s doing terrible maniacal things. I love Tobin. I love how committed he is to his work. 81 years old, incredible.

Saw is my favorite franchise. I expected to be disappointed and was so pleasantly surprised.
It’s definitely the best one ever, which like you said never happens with a sequel especially after so many movies.
The fact that John was personally victimized by his victims makes it so much more powerful.
However, if I was watching the movies in order of the events, Amanda’s aging would bother me, John’s not as much cause he was already old.

I always appreciate when they don't use de-aging technology, especially on women (since they have more of a stigma against aging etc etc). I really felt the passion and love that the creators had making this movie! They were definitely in-tune to the fanbase and wanted to make them happy, but not over deliver on fanservice. Overall, I feel like it was a little too long but I loved it. It's definitely in my top 5 Saw movies (maybe even....top 2)!
