Before Goofy went back to college and Max went on the road trip of a lifetime, at some point Goofy was married to someone who gave him his son, but who is this woman? Have we ever seen a Mrs. Goof?

I personally think George is Max's grandfather, and Junior is "the" Goofy we know today.
(born in 50s, young adult in disco 70s, married in 80s, being a single father raising his preteen son(Max) in early to mid 90s, sent Max to college around timeline seems legit.)

I think the bigger question is why is Max the only Micky Mouse character that permanently aged.

My theory is that the character in the 1950's shorts is actually Goofy's father, and that the redhead is Goofy himself. And for Max to be a pre-teen in the early 90's, I think it makes the most sense. As for where Max's mom is, I don't know, but I'm guessing she died from either a car accident or an illness.

Since it's p common for kid's hair and eye colors to darken throughout their childhood, it's possible for max to have had red/auburn hair as a toddler that then darkened to black, likely when he was around 7 or 8 years old

Max, like many other children, was born with different color hair. And as he got older it darkened to black, like goofy's. Max's mom died when he was still a toddler, from a car wreck. Goofy couldn't bring himself to say how she died but always told max that she was in the stars so he would not feel the pain from it.

So when I was younger I thought Clarabelle Cow and Goofy were a couple, but it turns out she was dating Horace Horsecollar the whole time! Kind of crazy. Have a magical day everyone!

I think Mrs. Geef is likely Penny Pooch as well. Junior certainly has that look about him. I think perhaps as Junior grew up, his hair got darker and his nose got bigger, looking more like his father with age. Or perhaps Junior is Max's older brother who was tragically killed with their mother when Max was an infant. It would be great if Disney made another Disney Toon movie in the GoofTroop franchise and this was revealed.

As a kid a read all of the Minnie 'n Me books and I always though that Penny Pooch was Goofy's wife. She was best friends with Daisy and Minnie plus she has the red hair.

Definitely think that Goofy's wife had physical features similar to that of Sylvia. And maybe that max had grown out of that reddish hair, like some blond kids do when they grow older and start to have really dark hair.

I think Jr. died early of a childhood illness.
Goofy and Mrs. Goof had a second child named Max, but his mother died in childbirth.

The feeling you get when you realize Goofy is technically one of few DIsney characters confirmed to have sex. I mean, Max didn't just come out of nowhere.
