I always liked that Dain named his first child Thorin.

They shouldn't have cut this. The funeral of thorin is a pretty big deal.

Why did they remove this from the movie? This is an epic scene.

So glad that they removed this and kept more Alfred scenes for the theatrical version!

It should be noted that Balin Ori and Oin will fall in Moria many years later and Dain Ironfoot will fall in the battle of Dale which happens during the war of the ring.

To me, the saddest thing about the deaths of Thorin, Fili, and Kili is that many people who've read the book often tend to forget that they died, myself included. It's not until you get to reading Fellowship of the Ring where you're reminded that they did die. To the movie's credit,  people now won't forget their deaths and how sad it is, especially with the funeral scene in the extended cut, which is something worthy of merit, because the saddest thing about being a fallen warrior is to be forgotten.

"I should call that a heavy loss, if it was not a wonder rather that in his great age he could still wield his axe as mightily as they say he did, standing over the body of King Brand before the gate of Erebor, until the darkness fell." -Gandalf on the death of Dain II

I wish for a movie where they show Dain fighting the forces in the North during the War of the Ring. That would be epic as hell.

Gandalf at the end of Lord of the Rings: "Now come the days of the King."

Gandalf at the end of the Hobbit: "The King is dead."

Dain is the best king of the dwarves in the book. He never became greedy for power. He was even offered by Sauron the reclamation of Moria and the dwarven rings but refused and fought alongside the kin of Bard.

The runes at 0:37 (the ones visible at least) say: "THORIN OAKENSHIELD, SON OF THRAIN, SON OF THROR, KING UNDER THE MOUNTAIN, HEIR OF DURIN"
