Sputnik Light Vaccine In India. Neurosurgeon Dr Arun L Naik explains Sputnik Light vaccine in India. One of the earliest vaccines to enter international market is Russian made Sputnik V vaccine. Now there is another news, about sputnik light vaccine in india. What is this sputnik light vaccine, how effective it is, where to get the vaccine and how safe it is, lets know in this video.
on 6 May Russia approved a single dose variant  Sputnik light for its citizens. Sputnik V is the world’s first registered vaccine based on a well-studied human adenoviral vector-based platform. The Russian Ministry of Health, the Gamaleya National Research Center and the Russian Direct Investment Fund jointly fund the development of Sputnik vaccines. Sputnik V is already approved in India and is launched in india on 17 May 2021 at Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad.

These adenovirus-based vectors are used extensively in vaccines and drug delivery systems for decades. So it is easier and faster to create new vaccines through modifying the initial carrier vector with genetic material from new emerging viruses. Adenoviral vectors are considered extremely safe, and are some of the easiest to engineer. Adenoviruses, which are found in adenoids in throat and regularly cause acute respiratory infections. More than 350 scientific studies have been done and published around the world on the safety of  adenovirus vectors.
Sputnik V is already registered in more than 65 countries including India covering 3.2 billion. Sputnik V is one of the three vaccines in the world with claimed efficacy of over 90%. Sputnik V’s efficacy was validated by internationally peer reviewed data published in The Lancet.

What is the difference between Sputinik V and Sputnik light?
Unlike Covishield and covaxin, Sputnik V uses two different viral  versions of the vaccine for the first and the second dose - given 21 days apart. This is reported to have a 92% efficacy. The sputnik light is nothing but the first dose containing viral fragment  called rAd26. The russians tried giving only first dose of the vaccine. This was as a part of Russia’s mass vaccination program between December 2020 and  April 2021.Sputnik light demonstrated 79.4% efficacy according to analyzed data taken from 28 days after the injection was administered.

How safe is Sputnik light?
What is reassuring is that No serious adverse events were ever reported after vaccination with Sputnik Light with more than 20 million vaccinations globally.
Is Sputnik Light available in India?
Sputnik Light, has received authorization for use in Russia in the first week of May 2021. The company says that It has applied for sputnik light clearance with Govt of India and we have to wait till the permission is given. At the time of recording, only sputnik V with both doses is approved and Apollo Hospitals will bring sputnik to its widespread hospital network in India.

Advantages of Sputnik light
1. As of now Sputnik is shown the best efficacy rate of any covid vaccines available with excellent safety profile.
2. Large number of people can be inoculated in a short period of time with no need for a second dose.
3. Single dose hence vaccination coverage  will be exactly double for the population compared to two doses vaccines.
4. It is affordable at INR 995 including GST in private sector for people who can afford.
5. Sputnik Light can also be used as a booster shot for other vaccines according to the company. However there is no approval as of now in India.
