The Apostle Paul in Philippi

Показать описание
Apostle Paul’s journey to Philippi in Greece was based on a vision he had of a man of Macedonia begging Paul to “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” (Acts 16:9) Paul set sail and landed at the port of Neapolis, the present day Kavala, Greece. Then Paul traveled to Philippi.
In this video you will see the site of ancient Philippi. There are signs that tell you of the history of the ancient city of Philippi and an “important event was to change the personality of the city once again; the visit of St. Paul the Apostle, who founded the first Christian church on European soil here in AD 49/50.”
We see the theater that had its initial phase during the middle of the 4th century BC during the reign of the King of Macedonia Philip II. There are other structures from later periods of time, but there is the site where Saint Paul and Silas were held in prison on the hillside, and the commercial agora and the road, Via Egnatia, can be seen. Our Guide reads to us about Paul from Acts 16 in the Bible, about his arrival in Philippi, his imprisonment and his release after an earthquake due his being a Roman citizen. Our Guide stated that this was the only time that Paul revealed his identity as a Roman citizen which is true for the Apostle Paul’s time in Europe. However, in Acts 22, while in Jerusalem, Paul identified himself as a Roman citizen, was ultimately transferred and held in Caesarea and kept under guard until he was taken by ship to Rome.
As we were leaving Philippi our bus slowed down to allow some animals to cross the roadway!
