Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist and eBay can be great places to find deals on used GPUs, CPUs, RAM, and even NON-computer stuff. But are they great places to get a custom-built PC? To find out, we gave money to 3 random people on Facebook Marketplace to see if we would get scammed, or the deal of a lifetime!

Components of Teenage Engineering

Components of The Hobbyist

Components of The Professional (that are worth buying...)

Purchases made through some store links may provide some compensation to Linus Media Group.

"I'm a project manager and I work from home, so I have a lot of free time."

Sounds about right.

Fun Fact: They didn't send undercover workers so they won't figure out it's LTT, they did it so Linus doesn't drop the PC while picking it up

"I'm a project manager and I work from home, so I have a lot of free time" That would explain a lot of project managers I've met. That aside, seems like a genuinely nice fella.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to say thank you to Linus, Reece, and the rest of the LTT team for featuring me and my PC build in this video. I've been watching LTT videos for a long time so I'm super stoked to actually be in one of them!

And if you're in the area and you need a PC built, feel free to reach out. I'd be happy to help!

Doing it free of charge because you like building PC’s is actually so nice.

Not gonna lie, I'd love to see LTT do something special for Keaton. Dudes a wholesome guy building PC's for free and making sure people don't get scammed. You love to see it

The "hobbyist" guy was amazing, but I also have a lot of sympathy for the TeenageEngineering guy. He builds decent systems for a decent price and at the age of 17 he created what seems like a viable business, not for profit but to pay for his education. That's quite impressive. I actually feel a little bit bad for him that he has to do that at such a young age just to get education.

I literally do the same thing as the guy who won.... I make my income through the 5% cashback credit card, The YouTube content, The Amazon Affiliate Income & the customer pays nothing other than the cost of parts, which I order with my own money to get that 5% cashback (never leave a balance) and they pay me nothing until they either come get the PC or see the content on it before shipping it.
That made me really happy to see someone else doing something similar!!!

OKAY when they said "We want to be friends with you" I couldn't take any other answer, that's an outstanding assessment. I love to see it.

😂 Ketan's facebook ad actually showed up during the WAN show that was filmed at the Langley house. While linus and luke were complaining about the state of misleading facebook marketplace ads.

Linus called Ketan's ad a scam at the time. Glad he got a redemption arc, and he turned out to be a legitimately nice guy that wants to help others.

I think this was a lost opportunity to give the hobbyist way more than just the computer, even if it was a bunch of ltt merch. His story elevated this video, the dude loves building computers so much he does it for free on his spare time. That's pretty epic.

One thing about teenage engineering: I think the worst part and what makes his build look so untidy is that he went with a "southpaw" orientation for the Peerless Assassin. As someone who owns that exact same cooler, I know that it is actually NOT symmetrical. Meaning depending on the orientation it is installed it either sticks out downwards (Southpaw) or upwards (Northpaw) as gamers Nexus called it. It is absolutely critical that the peerless assassin is installwd northpaw as it helps hiding those cables Routed on top. On top of that it looks cleaner as is while the southpaw orientation not only looks like its "hanging" but especially when wearing with ITX or some mATX boards it can sometimes blocks the topmost PCIe slot so the GPU can't be installed

Genuinely think that “The Professional” should be considered a borderline scammer. Using a bunch of no-name parts, that are only known by few people for legitimate issues, is insane…

U should give the nice guys a tour of LTT, since he clearly doesn't do the computer stuff for the money

I love the guy who did it for free out of passion.
not only is he so wholesome, but he also does it with genuine passion in a market where a lot of people skip, hoping price to performance would get better next gen.

I'm in Pittsburgh, PA. I was turning 39 and had no career. I was almost homeless. I started watching your videos and other YouTubers and started tinkering and learning. I then started a fake it until you make it business fixing and refurbishing tech. I worked 12 to 15 hour days in the beginning for no money or tiny money. I was Learning and growing. I now have a full hot air rework bench where I perform component level repairs. I have eprom programming equipment. Reball equipment.Thermal cameras. I have a clean room for HDD recovery. I mean, I started fixing tech sitting on my bed using contractors tools. When I made a little money I started buying proper tools. When I had some time I studied circuit design and circuit diagnosing. I am nothing special. Anyone can do it. I have to thank you Linus. I gained a 4 year degree watching your videos throughout the years. I started my tech business because of you. I appreciate your free videos and your understanding of the responsibility you have of honestly informing people here on YouTube. I have to say, if it wasn't for your videos, I wouldn't have gotten to where I am now.

The "Hi, is this still available?" tagline hit hard as someone that is currently trying to sell something and being let down and ghosted over and over again...
