I love my D700. Paired with the Nikkor 105mm Micro f2.8, it's my favorite spring and summer flowers combo.

D700 was released in 2008, which makes it even more impressive!

Nice photo chat. Excellent camera. Nothing like the thrill of stumbling across a nice surprise for a great price.

I still have mine. The D700 is my main full frame digital camera. I love it, and love the colors that come out of it. You got a great deal on it, but you always find the great deals.

Btw, I received your zine yesterday. I'm really enjoying it.

I have a brand new D700 in box in 2025...what would you suggest to be a single great lens to pair it with...also the best card... thank you

Thanks Kenneth. I have 2 D700s and they still get regular use. I believe the elephant in the room now days when using these older sensors is modern editing software. I find the D700 files work great when using super resolution in Lightroom Classic. Although rarely needed for most uses, the 48MP files created from super resolution can, in my experience, rival my D850, especially in well lit scenes with average dynamic range. If you don't need the high res files, which I find to be the case most of the time, then you have smaller files that just fly in the editor.

Came out in 2008 (just like my D3x) both fabulous cameras! 😀

What memory cards are you guys using in these? Do they have issues with the newer faster cards as long as I keep the capacity down?

This 2008 released "jewel" came into my life last year for about $125 USD with only 100 actuations. Yes, good things can certainly come to us unexpectedly. Thanks for the video, Ken!

100% agree. At my local camera shop I recently traded a lens I was never going to use for a D300. The D300 is good enough for Chicago street photography when I prefer not to risk my D850 (especially when I’m alone).

Got mine with a beat up body. All rubber grips need to be replaced and the battery door is broken off. However, it still works and the images they produce are phenomenal.
I took portraits for my family with the D700 and the 135 F2 DC and the images are amazing.

I bought one 4 years ago for a little under $400 and the IQ and build quality blew my mind right away. Even still today with the grip on it and the right lens nobody will question you and you cannot beat those harddrive friendly, 12mp files.
The camera is a total joy to shoot and it’s easily stil a great choice for a professional wedding/portrait photographer. And then some.

Ya know, the only objection I have to YouTUbe reviewers, Kenneth, is when they 1. don't take the time to get even the most basic information correct (i.e. launch date July 2008, not 2010 or 2012) - a simple "google search" prior to uploading a video would reveal this and 2. failing to point out any of the potential downside (i.e. servicing the camera for parts). Other than getting a potential bargain (I own the D700 - and purchased it used), this really a compelling case (i.e.no photos or case use). Every camera has strengths and weaknesses - I didn't really see any evidence of either here. Point is, I'd love to hear something new about the D700 (i.e. revisited) and I believe Martin Castein did such a review with photos last year. Glad your mother's advice paid off, but this seemed to be more a video about shopping for bargains that the D700 per se.

I have a Nikon Z6 and the Nikon d700. My go to camera is the 700.

I've moved to the lighter Fuji system as I've got older, however as I still kept my manual Nikon lenses I decided to buy a D700 last summer just as a minimal outlay 1 camera 1 lens FF option. Really good choice when you don't want to break the bank but want a quality reliable camera. As DSLR prices continue to fall I find myself eyeing the higher resolution D800 which I think is now reaching bargain price territory compared to the modern era high resolution cameras at several multiples higher price with a host of advanced features I don't actually need as a stills only shooter.

d700 + 35mm f2 AFD, match made in heaven

I just love mine; it’s a chunky boy!
The D700 seems to pair well with D series AF lenses which is great. Also with AI/AIS MF lenses. You snagged a real deal!

I will say there's value as well in what I call a "tree climber" camera. Have something you're not afraid to bang around! When someone has a $10, 000 camera they can be afraid to take it into the world lest a speck of dust hit the lens. The d700 is a quality build you can place in a canoe without fear for instance. And it takes beautiful images. Meanwhile I am worried I'll snap the flippy screen on some new models.

Inspiring way to look at it! nice
