In Nicaragua, Christian Aid has worked with its partner Soppexcca on an important project to promote cocoa production on farms that have traditionally produced coffee. In some areas, it is urgent to introduce new crops because coffee production is being affected by more extreme temperatures resulting from climate volatility. In this way, the small farmers can spread and protect their income sources. This project was co-funded by the InterAmerican Development Bank (IDB) with technical assistance provided by the IDB Lab (the former Multilateral Fund). The project has also allowed for the development of new skills and new opportunities for young people. Delcia Meza, from San Jose de Bocay in Jinotega, Nicaragua, explains how she became a cocoa taster through the project.
