Consultant Gastroenterologist, Dr Mark Cox details what a colonoscopy procedure is, what it involves and why a person would have one. He explains that change in bowel habits, back passage bleeding or anaemia are reasons for having the investigation.

To have a colonoscopy you need to have your bowel emptied, and you’re given bowel preparation the day before. The procedure takes 20 to 30 minutes, following which you will be taken to recovery where you will be given something to eat and drink after 10 to 15 minutes.
