4 Notes:

1) Infinite Burst combo, Overhead smash, burst, wide slash, reload, repeat until sharpness expended.
2) All shelling disabled when red sharp.
3) Wyrmblast can combo like any other reload move.
4) Slinger *type* effects Wyrmblast duration as well. ie Dragon Pods are awful.

Naturally the fatalis GL is the best for full burst/normal shelling, the vaal hazak GL is the best long shell (sans safi) and raging brachydios is best wide shell. Wide shelling is best for either nothing but shelling, or a constant barrage of poke shell poke combos

for people who can't slot in speed sharpening, you can grind for 'Whetfish Fin+' for a single swipe of sharpening and it has a chance to not consume the item when sharpening (10% chance of being consumed). Useful for weapons that eats sharpness quick and it's easily grinded without sacrificing other skills just for Speed Sharpening.

Edit : this only applies to MR but you can grind for normal 'Whetfish Fin' for HR

dont know if people have entioned this but with the speed sharpening you can copletely avoid the need for it with the Great wetfish fins + from the event quest :a fish to whet your appetite they allow you to sharpen your weapon with only 1 sharpen. animation every time so it allows you to fit in more skills to make your build comfy

12:30 -accidentally discovered today that you can also do a jumping full-burst. It'd probably be really hard to pull off because it fires them from side to side so you'd need a big target to be pretty close- nevermind you brought it up like 60seconds later lol

Gunlance is already a heavy armor skill requirement weapon DO NOT waste space on speed sharpening you don’t need to maintain max sharpness with it since you have shelling just sharpen normally when the monster leaves

Nice, with Wilds coming out soon I've just been making builds for each weapon and trying to step out of my Greatsword bubble. This looks pretty cool

Imo the raging brachy set is peak GL armor. Obv its fatty, but thats the trophy set

you forgot one move and its the lunge into shelling move idk what its call but from a lunging thrust if you press shell before it finishes it will do a shell instead of thrusting, great for closing the distance while avoiding bouncing on armored parts but rarely used elsewhere because the normal lunge combos better

Okay well you've gone and made me get back into gunlance. Gunlance has been on my top 3 for a while (Charge Blade, Sword and Shield and then Gunlance) I think I want to bump it to 1st.
I did not know you could move around that much with the weapon! Its freaking sick.
Also I always thought Gunlance was not anime, its a hulking weapon that looks unwieldy like it belongs on a mobile platform or tank, but in the right hands its a offence and defence master!

Thing to note for wide, it naturally has better charge shelling flinch damage than long... and theoretically lower damage, but as we have level 7 wide and we do not have level 7 long, wide ends up doing best damage on charge shelling as well. What long has over wide is longer hitbox.

You forgot the slap part of slap lance you gotta push y or triangle one more time to get the big sweeping slap then quick reload then overhead slam and slap

Thanks for the guide Tera. this was the weapon I never really learned out of all 14 and couldn't wrap my head around it. It still feels like an awkward weapon for me but I think that's a user problem. I do like how nuanced it is, the complexity actually keeps you more interested.

In MH2 the first game to have gunlance, it had a comically short wyvern fire cooldown of around 40-50 seconds. It's kinda fun to spam it in that game.

Back before Iceborne, one of the most fun and simplest ways to play was with Poke Shell. The animations for the attack pattern were quick, both parts naturally canceled out their end lag, kept you in place, and allowed you to react.

I stuck with Wide Shell because of this and wrecked face.
