Here's the ACTUAL COST of a NEW TRUCK!

Here's how much you'll actually pay for a new truck in 2024. It is not uncommon to pay $80,000 for new truck today. For my example in this video I talk through the actual costs associated with buying a 2024 Toyota Tundra Capstone that costs $80,000 even. Beyond that sticker price, I'll walk through the ACTUAL cost to buy the vehicle to include: Sales Tax, Registration Fees, Interest Paid on a 7% Auto Loan with a 72 month term, fuel costs, insurance costs and misc/oil change fees included. One thing I didn't include was an extended warranty purchase or optional protection packages. We kept this as simple as possible.

New vehicle prices have gotten out of hand and new trucks are a huge culprit. I wish $80K wasn't the new "norm"... I can't believe how expensive they've gotten. If you carried the 72-month loan through term, your $86 truck will quickly become a $135K truck. Absolutely insane if you ask me. For this reason alone, repossession rates and auto loan defaults are at an all-time high. What are your thoughts? Are you going to wait until prices come down? Are you waiting for interest rates to become more bearable? Are you the type to buy outright with cash? Let me know.

I've saved 5 years to get to 30, 000$ and I can't even buy a decent used Tundra! Silly me for thinking 30k was a lot of money.

my biggest regret is not buying the 2020 Tundra Platinum 4x4 when I had the chance that year with $6k off and 0% APR

I’m a general contractor and can’t imagine the effects this will have across the construction industry. The added cost over 6 years is equivalent to one or two of my workers income for an entire year. I’ll have to charge my customer substantially more to offset cost. The entry amount into the field of construction just outpriced most. Times have been good; but, I have to buy a truck, trailer, all my tools, insurance, workmans comp, gas, etc etc. I’ll have $500, 000 in just to run a small remodeing home building crew. Wild

Here in Maine we have excise tax on vehicle registrations. That 80k truck here would cost $1900 to register.

Thanks for taking the time breaking down the cost. Just me but I’ll never pay that much for a truck. Ridiculous!

This is why most car sales people want you to focus on monthly payment not overall cost.

I have been telling my friends this for years - it's crazy when you think about it. My advice is, pay cash if you can or buy used. Great video!

Dont forget to add 400 per year to register.
Also 2000 dollars every 30k miles for tires.

For some people who have their future secured, paying this much for a vehicle is acceptable. What I worry about is that it seems society as a whole is giving up on securing a future, and instead, choosing to live above their means and not delay any gratification. And it’s all happening while the average life expectancy is increasing, college debt is staggering, social security is being talked about as something that will be extinct, and the real estate market is pricing many out.

So unfortunately, I think a lot of people need to be viewing a vehicle purchase like this through the lens of opportunity cost. Buying that higher mileage, less feature rich vehicle in cash, at a fraction of the cost of a new vehicle and instead investing that money earlier in their life could have a very meaningful impact for later in their life.

In Canada vehicle prices are far more insane although Toyota dealers didnt apply mark-ups during the shortage. We're taxed to death and gas is a small fortune in BC.

What I do is have two new vehicles in a garage that are only taken out on fair weather days and when we want to enjoy our vehicles. We expect them to last 20 years the way I maintain them. We have a 9 year old Rav that takes all the abuse. Running it until the wheels fall off!!! Preserving our new rides

Good video but you failed to mention that you’re stuck with The same 3 year 36 mile warranty. They want us to pay more for these new cars and truck but settle for the same warranty. The warranty should go up with the price of the vehicle and that’s all I have to say about that. Let them sit on the lots and rust away.

You forgot...most state you need to pay registration fees EVERY YEAR! ON an 85K truck that could be $800 1st yr and slowly gets less each year. Plus, the OPPORTUNITY COST....you could have invested the money in the real estate, stocks, CDs, and avg 8% each year! and thats COMPOUNDING...COMPOUNDING! that $150k truck over 10yrs can be $350k in growth! you can retire at 50 rather than 90 yrs old.
