I just don't want GPUs to rely on frame generation and upscaling to get playable framerates on games. Modern GPUs should be getting above 60 on these new UE5 games. Hoping the 5070/5070 ti can actually deliver

XFX and Sapphire had this concept for a while now, my old RX480 had swappable fans (two clips and they popped out, no wires, just contact pads). It’s not anything new, but it’s good they’re expanding on it

what about one of those old graphics cards from the 90s?

upgradable vram
pretty much upgradable cpu for the gpu (if you find one compatible)
upgradable fans and heatsink

what a lost art

In college, we had to make a product and present It. Mine was basically a GPU that has various different heatsinks, fans, leds, back plates, etc available to customize how you want. I 3D modeled a buchh and made a proof of concept website for the presentation. You could change the colors and get things printed on the parts. My reference was a GTX 1060, 1070, and 1080. I just used the standard PCB and designed around it. I never really knew how to even remotely get the idea going for real and I figured that if i started posting about it some big company would rip it off before me as a broke college student could get it off the ground. It is cool to see things coming that are more customizable though.

This looks sweet! Other than changing the looks, and cooling performance of the GPU, it'll be repairable if the fans fail, assuming you can actually get the replacement fans. This will be great when the card gets old and parts start to wear out.

All the noctua fans getting super excited about this right now

I actually love this. When I’m looking at gpu prices I was thinking man imagine if they had swappable parts that don’t require a tool other than a screwdriver to change color scheme of the GPU. A black and orange gpu would go crazy.

frame generation and upscaling should be something only for low to mid low range gpus, mid high to high gpus should not rely on those for gaming at high resolution

the only reason i got excited was the fact that cleaning is now way more accessible to the average fellow, no more fear of potentially breaking fan fins out of laziness

One 2070 card in my lap starting having fan issue. it will start making noise and wiggle when a friend needs to spin faster. M most of my colleagues determined that it is a lost cause and about to decommission it. I decided to do the unthinkable of taking it appart. lubricated bearing with new grease and put it back together. It have been chugging along ever since then.

Now we just need swappable heatpipes 🙏🙏

Fan shrouds and backplates that can be swapped out for different color schemes as well. Many GPU’s could use a LGA socket as well and I bet the new CAMM? DDR5 ram concept could be applied for GDDR6 for full upgrade ability of the host board.

My old RX 580 had swappable fans with many color options. Made doing deep cleans a lot easier

Oh man! I wish this hit the marked soon, but i also want to see swappable backplates and the front housing of the fans

This would be actually really cool, if GPU manufacturers would make more fan swappable GPUs, would add so much customization/personalization to building a pc.
Excatly what our beloved pc building hobby is all about.

Honestly love XFX & think this would be pretty damn cool to do, would give me more reason to mount my GPU differently. Im a fan

I like the ability to connect an aio to your gpu with a few mods over anything asphetic

Would be so good if it becomes a main stream thing

I do like those prototype GPUs that had a passthrough m.2 expansion, since PCI4 GPUs can't use all the lanes of a PCI5 slot, it's smart honestly. But it's niche

Would be nice if this became the standard, if one of the fans fails at any point it'll be super easy to just replace
