oh i didnt know that u did a video about this calibration software in 2017^^ Thank you :)

i just purchased it yesterday and im quite happy with the results!
i calibrated all my lenses with it (mostly sigma). so fast, so reliable!
Its much much easier then using the sigma usb-dock!

And big thanks for the "how to" the calibration with the usb-dock AND the software in combination!!!

Fantastic video ! I'm gonna give it a try. I've been doing this process manually with my two sigma lenses and while it's better now, I'm still not 100% sure I picked the right adjustment for some settings (also the whole process is extremely tedious). This definitely allows for a more scientific and definite answer and automates at least some of the process. Thank you !

Sorry I’m a bit lost, so here my questions ( first I do have reikan software to say the list I had a lots of problems with older versions)
But I will give it a try again. First question when you use reikan with a zoom lenses what do you choose on the focal length example 70/200 do you do 70 mm first then you do 200 mm? What is your suggestion?

Second a got confused with your Tamron explanation do you use reikan then use the usb hub from Tamron to report the data from reikan software is that correct?
Then you zero all on camera micro adjustment because they are already set on the lenses correct?
Because I do own the 45 1.8 and macro 90 2.8 latest versions
But when you test this lens with reikan you are using the suggested distances from Tamron guide correct? Last if you set the correction on the lens with Tamron and you have 2 different body
Why is not best to use reikan to adjust each Tamron lenses with that software? I don’t see the need to have USB pod for a Tamron lens is that correct?
Let me know please.
Thank you 😊

Thanks for doing this series Dustin. I just picked up the Sigma dock for my 80D and two Sigma lenses. For my 4 other Canon lenses, I'm really mulling over the FoCal software. I'm an hobby/enthusiast so thinking the Plus version should be good for me.

Thanks! I just started using FoCal and wanted to use it in combination with my Tamron 70-200mm G2 with Tap-In. I couldn't find any info on how to use the two programs together. Your video cleared that up. Now for the hard part, moving that target around to get get all those settings...

Hi Dustin. You say in one of your videos that if the lens is getting outside the -20/+20 range there is something wrong with the lens. Well, have you had the chance to calibrate a 85 1.2L ii? I got one using to now manual adjustment and testing shots at several distances to the subject eyes, etc and I find myself in the range of +17/18. I have a 6D. Does this mean that something might be wrong with the lens? I just got it from used shop in mint condition but can return it.

Would you expect a linear relationship for adjustments or is some curvature expected? Calibrating my Tamron 70-200 G2 and getting +17 at 70, +17 at 100, +7 at 135, and +15 at 200. Have rerun test and results tend to be similar. My Tamron 24-70 G2 also give me somewhat of a hockey stick with +9 at 24, +8 at 35, +7 at 50, and +12 at 70.

Brilliant rare video and lecture .. simply awesome. Learnt a lot and that software seems pretty good. However, I did a manual test using a free printed test chart on a *sloped* shooting table. My old Canon lenses (100 2.8L, 24-105 f4L and the 50 1.8 STM) on my old 5D are spot on and there seems to be no forward or backward focussing issues whatsoever. However this software will be more thorough I am sure. Assuming that camera manufacturers would naturally have their cameras optimised for their own lenses, even if things are reverse-engineered by third party manufacturers, it would be a big task to test their lenses on all camera bodies out there surely!? The mind boggles! I also discovered that DxoMark rates lenses based on the camera/lens combinations which was a revelation to me! Thank you for a very interesting, instructive and "thinking" video.

What suggestion do you have to square the camera to the target ?

Dustin, do we have to calibrate for all the focal range with all the apertures ? e.g.: For 70 - 200 mm, do we need to calibrate for (70, 85, 135, 200, ...) with all the available aperture (2.8, 4.2, ....)

Dustin, is this process only for DSLRs? Meaning it's not for mirrorless cameras such as theSony A7R3. Thanks alot

Great tutorial. I have the Tamron 24-70 G2, Reikan Focal, and the Tamron Tap-In Console and so far I have been very happy with my calibration results. The only thing I am struggling with is what should my minimum infinity distance be for calibration for the 4 focal lengths (24, 35, 50, and 70) when using the Tamron Tap-In Console in conjunction with the Reikan Focal software?

Hey Dustin ! Thank you for the great tutorial. I've just purchased the software
I have a question regarding the calibration of Sigma/Tamron lenses at each distance: should you start with the closest distance and work backwards? Or the opposite?
I have the impression that changing the value of one distance impacts the other distances as well but I could be wrong

Hey Dustin, I have a question about using the Tap-In console in conjunction with FoCal. Is it possible to remove the lens during the test and then set the values with the Tap-In and then re-attach the lens and continue the test, rather than relying on the camera body adjustments to match the Tap-In adjustments? Thanks in advance!
