Just a little note, I’ve heard that walnut shells (shavings/crumbs included) should not be used is skin care, body scrubs & soap because the fragments will always have sharp edges regardless of how fine which causes very small cuts over the skin causing possible infections etc. That was the whole issue with the kylie skin care last year as it can cause irritation. There are safer options that are still environmentally friendly ♥️

HUGE shout out to Brambleberry, I'm so glad you guys are using them! As a cold process soap maker (hobby level) I can tell you, lye isn't that scary. I was afraid of it, too, before I started. It's kinda like riding a bike as a kid- you're scared of falling until you fall, then you realize you can handle it. I've had lye splash small drops on my arm, and to me, it feels like ant bites and leaves a similar size owie. You're not a chicken leg, you will notice if something is burning you and get it off before you become a crime scene photo.

A few I want to offer, other than the obvious safety gear, do NOT mix your fragrance oils/essential oils in a plastic cup haha. Almost all soapers have stories about when they learned that the hard way. Next tip, don't clean your soap stuff the same day you make the soap.. it will be a gross oily mess. Wait until the soap in your mixing bowl cures into soap itself, then it's super easy to clean! Another huge tip, don't eat your soap no matter how tasty it looks and smells. Another, you don't need extra extra extra virgin olive oil if you decide to use that, but heavy pomice grade is a mistake too because it will accelerate. If you ever try making salt bars, pour them in individual molds, NOT a big block that you have to cut.

BIG safety tip, there is misinformation all over the internet about using vinegar to neutralize lye spills. Don't do this. Lye itself gets hot and does both heat and chemical burns. Lye plus vinegar gets HOTTER and has a GREATER chemical reaction, causing much more damage. Yes, it neutralizes it, by a reaction process. It would be ok for something like a concrete floor, but don't mix the 2 on any organic surface.
