The reason for the temp fluctuations with the thermoworks is because of the pin point accuracy of the tip. A steak as thick as the ones you demo are going to give multiple readings while probing. That’s what makes mk4 so awesome.

I've been searching for videos reviews on these tools all day and this was by far the best review! well done. loved the graph at the end.

You hold the three in hand and you can feel a significant difference in quality. The Thermopen is fully waterproof. Warranty? You missed considerations of why to choose one over the others and only considered price and performance. Not a complete review.
Your performance tests were very well done!

would have been good if you covered 1- customer support from each maker 2-warranty period 3-ease of returns and exchanges for each manufacturer

I really liked your review, I wasn't really sure whether to get the Thermapen MK4 or the Lavatool Javelin Pro Duo. I felt the same way pertaining to price, I ended up picking the Javelin Pro Due at half the price.

All had measuring oddities while cooking meat... Ended up using time and texture to figure out medium rare.
Keep my cash and keep doing what I'm doing is what it sounds like to me.
Oh, and don't buy for candy, but they are fairly reliable for checking if your water is ice. 👌👍

Nice job on this review. I was already leaning toward the Javelin Pro by was also wondering if the $50 difference was worth buying th Mk4. Sticking with the Javelin Pro thanks to your great review.

The ugly truth: if your Lavatools Javelin fails during the warranty period, you're out of luck. Even failure from normal wear and tear is not covered. You have to submit an on-line form listing personal details and why they should replace your thermometer under warranty. The reason does not matter because they will not reply to your message! They tout "Designed in the U.S. and made in China". Lavatools is owned by a Chinese company in Honk Kong. The Javelin is overpriced and lacks features of less-expensive and better thermometer pens such as the Inkbird 1HT-1S which has a real warranty and lifetime service.

Problems all over Amazon with these instant read thermometers and the Lavatools warranty. I would never buy this brand! Amazed that you missed this. People DO care about reliability and warranty.
