His new live versions of Genesis songs stand up on their own. I am grateful to Mr Hackett and his band, for providing so much pleasure for me, and obviously many others. Thankyou!

Genesis, from the beginning, was a gift from God. The amount of talent that Peter, Steve, Phil, Tony, and Mike brought to the table was and still is truly immeasurable. To be honest, I thought Genesis was at its best on the Seconds Out recording. I really wish Steve would have stayed with the band, but I fully understand and respect his decisions. This interview further explains the background. Kudos to Steve for all he has contributed to music, his live shows w Nad on vocals are amazing.

Steve Hackett like Pete Gabriel, Anthony Phillips, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks and Phil Collins is a talented artist.
And talented artists must create....either in a group....or....as a solo artist for their musical creations to become reality.
The band Genesis was and is a band full of serious talent.
Looking forward to seeing Steve Hackett and Band later this year on the Foxtrot At 50 Tour plus his phenomenal solo work.
Prog on Steve!!👍👍🎸

Hackett leaving Genesis was a win-win for both sides, the band and Hackett himself. He felt forced to suppress his songs and within his solo career he could be the one he wanted. And Genesis had some problems to fill in Hackett's gap on their successor ATTW3. But with Duke, they found their identity as a trio. So, everything was fine.

Saw him live with Genesis in 1976 and 1977. The '76 show especially was pure magic.

Too young to know but Steve Hackett was the final element that left that tied me to what I loved about the classic line up. Massive song writing shift happened after. Okay they were more popular on later album but on a musical level, his input melded all that was great about the Gabriel, Collins, Banks, Rutherford incarnation.

A very talented group of great musicians, all with their own skills and Steve is no exception with his amazing guitar skills and done very well as a solo artist 👍 seen Steve live many times live and spoken to him a couple of times, a really great person.

LOOK AT GEORGE HARRISON. ALL THAT MUSIC OVERLOOKED & HIS SOLO MUSIC IS MY FAVE OUT OF THE 4

Certainly all of the most worthwhile Genesis music happened while he was in the band. His solo work is quite intriguing, and much of it I've only heard him play live as part of Genesis revisited. Seems like an almost bottomless pit of interest there that I should explore

I love Steve, but he could have kept Tony in check and they could have still kept Prog tendencies and have a few “Pop” hits here and there. Just think how explosive his guitar runs would have improved Abacab. I’ll bet Mike would have been happy keeping the bottom end and rhythm. Who knows?

Steve's a class act although he did ignore me when I got backstage during Wind and Wuthering tour and shared cigarette with my g/f instead - don't blame him in the least

One lesson here is that in a band with multiple talented songwriters, the most you can really have is three of them. Get above that, and there won’t be enough room on the albums. Genesis in the early ‘70s had FIVE such brilliant people, and some process of attrition was inevitable.

It was time. There is no way Steve would have fit into the direction that the other three were heading. Steve's playing just wouldn't work in the pop stuff that the band ended up doing. His input was definitely missed by all good things come to an end. I love his solo work.

Having side outlets for your own creative ideas is cool. But it's even cooler when you have a band so open that they're not afraid to try anything. Even cooler when the fans show that band love and support no matter what direction they take (Rush)

Thing is when Tony and Steve wrote together it was magical. I love Genesis but by the time wind snd wuthering was written it was so drenched in keyboard poor Steve had no choice.

Jason Newsted of Metallica would agree.
