Two Marines were walking through Walmart. My 4 year old son froze. He pointed to the two Marines. “Daddy... look. Heroes.” I stopped the two Marines, each twice my size. “Guys, ” I said, “my son would like to shake your hands.” The two Marines suddenly stood at attention then each knelt down and shook my boy’s hand. They spoke to him for a minute or so. They were so kind, so gentle. Then they stood and saluted and my son instantly saluted back. Then they walked away. 17 years later my son became a United States Marine. It was his dream, instilled by those two warriors. My son was severally injured and was honorably discharged two years later. But his dream was realized. Thanks guys.

This reminds me of the quote famously attributed to G. K. Chesterton: "A true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him."

Now THAT is a REAL father AND a DAD. I'm not that religious but I'll still say God bless you, your family and your marine colleagues. Take care.

I commend his C. O. and First Sergeant for letting his daughter pin his new rank on his collar. Very kind act.

1st: Very cute.
2nd: Being promoted by exactly the one, who you fight for in the first place, is amazing.
3rd: Good parenting at work.

You're already TEACHING this child SELF CONFIDENCE & COMPETENCE & a great
EXAMPLE by letting him help with such an
important task. Well done. 😊💙

This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.... allowing this child to do the pinning gave me chills and tears! Thank you for letting this child play such an important role!

This is VERY personal. To allow a child to render the promotion shows how much US service men and women care about and respect their country. Good show people 🙂

As a civilian I must say that is humbling and touching as a father. Thank you all for your service.

I still have a photo from my Dad's promotion to Major (Army) 40 years ago, with my Mom and me pinning on his oak leaves. Really great and special to have your kid a part of that. Congrats on the promotion and your beautiful family.

When my dad got promoted to 1st Sergeant in Japan, my siblings and I got to put his new insignias on. Watching this kind of unlocked a forgotten memory...

Thank you all military folks (living, deceased, or disabled) for your service. The world is a lot safer thanks to your sacrifices. Sincere condolences to all military families for the loss of your loved ones. Rest in peace 😞🎖🪖

Having lived the child side for both parents in the Army, one a combat infantry officer, it does my heart good to see direct acknowledgment of soldier’s (marine) humanity. It made me cry. I’m 65.
