Contrary to what everyone else is saying, I think the rider did a really good job handling the aftermath of the situation. Just based on his body language and mannerism alone, I’d consider him to be a great horseman. He approached the horse calmly and carefully, deescalated things perfectly in spite of being injured from the fall and the embarrassment of the situation. He had his priorities straight. As far as the saddle sliding off, I’ve gone through that before too; it’s not always because the girth is loose. Sometimes saddles slide when they are unevenly flocked, if the horse has uneven muscle development, or if the rider subconsciously tilts to one side more than the other. Along with that possibly, some riders such as myself and possibly this guy here, try to avoid over tightening their horses’ girths because they don’t want their horse to be uncomfortable. Sometimes fails like this do happen, but generally if you’re well balanced and your saddle fits properly, your girth shouldn’t need to be super tight anyways.

How humiliating. Poor guard. I’ll bet he got some ribbing from his fellow guards for that. And just as he’s dealing with the situation as best as he could that woman and her friends walk over and stick their phones right in his face. Ghouls.

That was not the horse. The saddle was loose and slid off to one side, disturbing the horse. Possibly the horse "blew" - inhaled a deep breath and held it to keep the cinch looser. The rider is responsible for insuring that the saddle is not loose or falls off though, not the horse.

It looks like someone needs to get a check up on saddling his horse! Saddles don't move when you correctly have them cinched up correctly.

1st rule when mounting, always check your cinch again. Some horses will hold their breath when you tighten it and then exhale. Always double check, they can be sneaky.
