Rhiannon Giddens - La Vie en Rose

This is for Paris, and Beirut, and Kenya, and Charleston, and so many others; for countless innocent people devastated by terrorism- which is just a word for organized hatred and inhumanity. We have to keep seeing the world in shades of rose- we have to keep hoping for peace and working for change and believing that with our art, our love, our knowledge, and most of all, our empathy and understanding for our fellow human beings, we can make a difference.
-- Rhiannon Giddens

Her versatility is remarkable, and to each genre, instrument or setting, she brings artistry and something ... what? Sensitivity? Presence? Whatever it is, she has it, and she brings us with her.

If music is meant to touch emotion, certainly this performance does. What beauty.

I am French and in all subjectivity, I consider this to be the best version just behind the original one by Édith.
Your voice is a genuine treasure, I love how you sing everything sooo naturally, without any cheap artificial effects !
By the way, your French pronunciation is impressively good !

Simple, honest, gorgeous, timeless,  breathtaking, achingly beautiful.

I listen to this once or twice a month, and make my kids listen. When we do, we know there is still beauty--and hope--in the world.

Rhiannon is such a treasure for North Carolina, the South, America, and the world. Love seeing where she's going nowadays and then still being able to go back and watch the early CCD videos. She's a great musical artist and performer, but she's like a history teacher too and someone who really digs into the roots of roots music and the cultural influences that came together in America. She's the kind of person you would love to have a conversation with about the past and its role in the present and the issues that we face. Hope she runs for president one day!

She sounds almost exactly like my late mother when she used to sing this. I almost want to cry... but I'm half French so extreme beauty can make me weep anyways. 😢

I don't speak French but let me tell you that this speaks to my very soul.

Having grown up listening to Edith Piaf and other powerful women, I am moved deeply by this performance and by the sentiment above regarding how knowledge, art and love can make a difference against hatred and inhumanity. This song brings peace. Thank you, Rhiannon.

I think this is the first song I've ever listened to that put a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes and left me I've never heard such a voice or such a range.

The soaring flights of the birds is the perfect visual accompaniment to the beautiful soulful music. A work of art.

This is like a bird who sits in the trees near me saying things I cannot understand the words to, but only the emotions and beauty of.

Ça, c'est interprétation de ce classique la plus SUPERBE que j'ai jamais entendu, . Par une chanteuse AMÉRICAINE, et métisse, de surcroit! ABSOLUMENT FABULEUSE !

Merci, merci Rhiannon Giddens, for this! Your background of singing opera shines through on this one in particular. I love your music; your style and sound touch my soul.
