Optimizing Zooming defaults in REAPER w/ Hotkeys & Mouse Mods (Rapid-fire Reaper Tutorials Ep66)

Hey folks! In this episode, we're gonna be looking at a few preferences, Hotkeys and Mouse Modifiers all related to zooming! It's not the sexiest of all subjects, but the larger your projects get, the more important it becomes to be able to quickly navigate through them. I found a few of the REAPER defaults in this area to be less than perfect, and with some customization and a bit of SWS action you can really optimize your zooming!

Seriously? I'm not lying here: I was just about to set up my zooming shortcuts in Reaper. I did that according to a ReaperBlog tutorial. Then my Firefox crashed (which is its recent habit). And as I logged into Youtube again your video was up! I call this: right time, right place!
Btw: I had my stuff set up pretty similarly to your shortcuts. Didn't know about the Marquee zoom though, that was the last missing piece, just great!
You, Kenny and Jon really are the power horses on my Reaper journey (which hasn't even really begun - still in S1 by now but I'm getting closer and closer :-) ) THANX A LOT!

I've gotten a little accustomed to the mouse wheel zooming in because you can also just move your mouse over the tracks and it contextually switches to vertical scrolling.

Super cool man! Tell me, would you know how to make the Razor Edit feature work in the midi editor? Also, a video on Razor Edit could be quite nice!

On the risk of getting on your nerves: How are you're zooming prefs in the midi editor?
Reaper is the only DAW I know where the functions aren't linked between the different windows and unfortunately I can neither find a marquee zoom nor the SWS "drag ruler zoom" thing for the piano roll which is both strange and sad..
Just interested how you maneuver through your midi arrangements.

How do I move items on the timeline with the right mouse button? That is, drag to the side to the other, but with the right mouse button and not with the left.

can you please tell me how to navigate between midi notes with left right up down arrow keys like in S1 without selecting each note with mouse click

One question: "Zoom out project" only zooms out horizontally but leaves a lot of free space vertically here. I have set up a custom action which is:
Item: Select all items
SWS: Horizontal zoom to selected items
SWS: Vertical zoom to selected items
Item: Unselect all items
...but that that leaves my Mixbus and FX tracks at the top of my project of corse and also kills the "lock track height" on my Mixbus (for some reason).
Just a bug on my system or does "Zoom out project" only zoom out horizontally? I am looking for something like "Alt/Option + A" in Pro Tools.
Any ideas? If not, coffee is on the way anyways.. :-)
