I think smelting the nether gold Ores is consistently more gold, as they will always give 1 ingot or 9 nuggets, but you can, however unlikely, get more from fortune if you get lucky

-First Heart of the sea
-Dragon breath
-All the music disk
-All the mob head available

15:27 You get 8.8 gold nuggets avg per nether gold ore when mining with fortune III, vs a gold ingot (=9 nuggets) if you mine with silk touch. so its really a question of fuel. If fuel is scarce, mining is better, if fuel is abundant smelting is better :)

15:31 sometimes, you can get more ingots with a fortune 3 but it's very rare so just smelt them. It's better because you take risks of loosing 1 or 2 ingots and it gives xp

something i always like to do with those farms that i dont ever see is alternate the water in them. so 50% flushes every time the redstone goes off
