Indeed, Socrates was one of a kind. He was put here to think, question and analyze. Normal people (so to speak) during that period did not have the balls to challenge anything. They were satisfied with the way things were. Then here comes Socrates....shaking things up. His brilliance frightened most and he paid a terrible price. If there is a chance that there is an afterlife, he is one that I would really like to meet up with. I don't have questions. I just want to listen to everything he is willing to speak on.

We should consider here that the infamous Critias and Alcibiades and others in the 30 tyrants after the war were his most famous pupils. He was also openly anti democratic so the fact that his pupils used his philosophy to attain tyrannical power shouldn’t be a surprise. ALSO this video really only cites Plato’s version of the trial, which is different than Xenophon’s account. The trial was almost certainly not in dialectic format. In fact much of socrates’s “wisdom” can be attributed to Plato’s brilliant dialectic prose.

As progressively fully democratic as the Athena was then, there was litle place for freedom of speech.
