Defenitely the taillight seals. I soak these seals in a lot of 303 aerospace protectant. Great stuff. Great fix guys! Thanks for sharing. Have a nice weekend, Dutch regards, Nico.

Tailight seals bro, Really common. And yes that's PDC module

I'm a bmw tech from rainy old England, we get this issue regularly and in my experience it's not the rear lights but the body vent on the osr, behind the bumper ( bar). Panel distortion from either the lightest car park ding to poor previous accident damage. Body vent needs either re sealing or replacing. You can either move pdc module or repair as you may have done already.
In future if you have ista, you can use a test schedule called " bus system analysis" that would have helped you diagnose the fault, or future faults you may have.

Glad my comment from yesterday proved correct. I had the same issue in my old E87. All E8x cars seem to be affected by it.

It was good to not only see this car at Roll Racing on Saturday night but also fun to race it. I raced it twice and it goes well.

My brother had the same problem on a 120i e87. The PDC module was submerged in water, I dried everything and the car returned to normal.

What? BMW sold 135i's with factory sunroof delete in Australia??? I'm insanely jealous!!! 😄 But what a find! Cheers to the community for nailing the problem!

Thanks. Hope this fixes mine! Mechanic has my car for some unrelated work, he rang me yesterday to say the cluster has died! Can't be a coincidence that it happened the day after I washed the car.

Check the alternator as well, my 5 series was doing the same thing. Guessing water got into the alternator. Changed the alternator and problem solved.

June 4th 2022. Well I'm writing this after possibly the longest period 0 to 60 has gone in a few years without a video. (I think but I was wrong once before). I hope the move is happening (I don't recall the dates for it). But wow I miss you guys. All good blessings to you and yours.

My car does that every once in a while. Like 3 times a day. I’ve chased wires and everything, no issues found. Makes me think it’s the alternator or something. Cluster dies for e few seconds and says to drive carefully when everything comes back on. If it stays down for more than a 3-4 seconds it locks the transmission in 3rd gear and I have to restart the car to drive again. No water or corrosion around battery area.

Is this in the same spot on a US 2012 128i? I don't have rear parking, camera, sensors etc. I have the same behavior with the front dash switching on and off. Local mechanic said he'd probably waste tons of time trying to figure out where something is wrong and he's a local BMW guy. Maybe I should point him to this vid? Anyways, I want to try and fix this myself. Guess I'll go fishing in my car in the morning (since it may be submerged in water here in rainy Oregon).

Just stumbled across here. N54 AT is a bit off the N52 MT mark I have but I can tell stuff is going on here. Will have to catch up on some videos shortly and see whats what. Loads of mods is the executive summary I’m gathering.

Random question when you did your valve lapping job did you have smoking or any symptoms? Is it worth doing? Feel like that gets overlooked a bit thanks! Upload soon!!!

Not sure if it will help anyone but my BMW had a leak from the fuel door drain hole. The seal around the fuel filler neck was pushed in behind the fuel door wall instead of inline with it... and therefore the rain was leaking in front of the seal in-between the wall and straight down into the boot as well as towards the front (which drained out the car). It should be going down the tube surrounding the fuel filler neck. So it's an easy thing to check if the rubber seal in the fuel filler door is correctly fitted or not
