Grafted Dahlia Experiment

In this video I explain what my experiences have been with grafting dahlias. The Dahlias grafted in this video are 'Café au lait' scions grafted onto a root stock of a tree dahlia species called Dahlia imperialis. The two species graft very well making a very strong bond despite not being very closely related. There appears to be some benefit from the tree dahlia root system, although flower size and vigour appear to be similar to 'Café au lait' grown on its own root system.

Thanks for watching

Really nice. Never knew that it was possible.

Perhaps benefits can be observed using grafting techniques in tropical areas with hot summers. Dahlias usually do not grow normally in hot weather and bloom sparsely. In areas without frost, garden dahlias bloom from October to March. In hot areas in winter, tree dahlias can bloom in winter without frost until February of the following year.
