Will Logic Pro for iPad KILL GarageBand?

Does the release of Logic Pro for iPad mean the end of GarageBand for iOS? That's a question I have received many times over the last week or so since Apple’s announcement.

Let’s talk about it.

Don’t underestimate the power of for free (no subscription).

Logic Pro will be like that new fancy washing machine you bought last time. Eventually you’ll just want to go “power on, start” again.

As far as I know, Logic Pro hasn’t killed GarageBand on desktop, so why would GB be killed on iPad? I think the main reason is that GB is free, and also quite powerful considering. Many people are already crying about paying a subscription for LP on iPad, so it’s not like everyone will be going that way even if they would prefer to use Logic. And because they are different apps, as this video says, many music makers will use both.

Not a chance. One is free and still very capable.

You forgot to mention GarageBand is free and Logic Pro for iPad is a subscription🤬
JUST SAY NO TO SUBSCRIPTIONS!
I worked for Apple Inc for 12 years and ever since Tim Cook took over the Company is greedier than ever..

Always felt a bit jealous of feature rich Logic Pro, but this review gives me a sense of satisfaction of having the right tool for the job. Still, amazing what tools are, or will be coming available to iPad! A carry around music/video production studio still boggles my mind.

Nope… unless Tim calls it. Logic will be subscription and I ain’t happy bout all that

All GB is missing (for my money) is a bit more mixing options, but its simplicity is what makes it perfect for those new to recording.

I was waiting for this! I’ll predict: NO! EDIT: Logic has some huge bother. GarageBand is just fucking easy to use. Hence why I went back to it. My pals master stuff for me. Job done. As ever love the channel.

I have mix feelings. Yes I’ve been waiting for Logic for iPad just not as a subscription. I rather purchase it just like I did with GarageBand when it was released. I’m old school and still prefer analog over digital anytime. Yet it’s a digital world. Files/projects will end up being garbage if I cancel the subscription and don’t own Logic for Mac. I’d be more satisfied if it had a price tag than a subscription fee. I can keep going on about digital recording vs analog with my conspiracies, but that’s another topic. Again I rather purchase a DAW app rather than pay for a subscription in order to keep a file alive. Thanks for what you do 👍🤘

You forgot to mention one thing, Logic Pro for ipad will be subscription based. $4.99 a month subscription fees will turn many users off from sing Logic Pro on ipad.

I use GB for iPad for four years now, and it suits all my needs as hobby musician. It's is nice that there is so much possible nowadays. Splicing tape on my Trac A3300-SX and multitrack recording on my Fostex X-26 seems ages ago....

Don’t know if I missed it but also
Garage Band is free and logic will not be cheap

It won’t be a one time only purchase like it is for Mac

Is the release of Logic Pro on subscription model the end of a lot of interest in it?

Certainly ended my interest. Doesn't matter what the DAW, if it is on subscription model then it is DO NOT WANT.

I would hope not. GarageBand has limitations, but that's not always a bad thing. I'm happy for the folks who are excited about Logic for iPad, but a fair few of them also preach 'you don't need all the gear' and 'use what you have'. I'll continue to do that. Maybe that puts me in the hobbyist camp, but that's OK too.

I think I will continue to use Gb because it’s free and fun to use. I already got Cubasis, which does a really good job.

What I don’t understand is why they keep focusing on professional level software, and amateur software when I believe the majority of us are musicians first and would greatly benefit from something in between. More than GarageBand, with the ease of use and less complicated than logic. It takes quite some time to learn how to appropriately utilize the features and logic and I have been using it for over five years. I’m a musician, not an audio engineer. That is the appeal of GarageBand to begin with but as you learn more and more you wish for more features then garage band has to offer.
