'1990' German Field Ration, Einmannpackung Typ II

Показать описание
This review is a German One man, daily ration or Einmannpackung (EPa) produced in 1990. The EPAs from the 1980s to the early 1990s each had only one different main course for type 1 to type 4. The 'old' EPa consisted of square main menu ration tins, the newer EPa use a rectangular tin. In the mid-1990s, two packs of hard biscuits were still contained in the EPA in the second half of the 1990s, a pack of hard biscuits by crackers, which in turn were replaced by the rye bread.
Another difference lies in the durability, with the 'old' EPa the Bundeswehr specified a minimum shelf life of 10 years, the newer EPa and EPa-Lights are given with a durability of 3.5 years. The energy from this EPa is approximately 13.8 MJ (3,300 kcal), with a total weight of 1.6 kg. The main meals of the EPas can be consumed cold "without loss of nutritional value and substantial loss in taste, according to the leaflet". However, warming in hot water or on the Esbit cooker is recommended . The German EPA contains no utensils for heating except the matches. A fold-out Esbit cooker belongs to the personal equipment; Esbit.

Doesn't taste as bad as it smells? Can't say the same for everything in life. Foot infused goodness. This bodes well for the one you sent - gives me something to look forward to! You know, the lard & meat actually looks pretty good. I think your margarine looks to have held up better than the military spread from a prototype ration from 1961 that I plan to put out soon.
Oh man I have been laughing so hard at this - looks like I have no choice but to review the one you sent off. This was a great review man!

I knew it. I loved the old EPAs. Whenever my Dad was on maneuver, he brought tons of that stuff back home. Childhood memories!

Very close in contents to the EPA's I was issued in 1997 thru 2001 :-)
I use to carry a supply of "Hartkekse" and jam in a spare magazine pouch on my web gear, they always provided a great energy boost "on the go" !
The Schmalzfleisch & Bierwurst would be OK eaten cold for breakfast... when washed down with hot coffee :-)
We used to heat the main courses in a mess tin over a WWII issue wood alcohol fuel burner... which by then were rusting and drying up completely but since there were still cases of them left over... still issued ! ;-)
The utter worst was the "Blutwurst", blood sausage, in the same size 100 Gramm pack... inedible hot or cold... if they ever bulldoze the training grounds behind the Army base, they will need a dump truck for all the Blutwurst tins they will unearth :-)
The Meybona dark chocolate has the same effect as the "Biscuits, Brown" in the UK Ration packs... no need to use the latrines for 3 days at least :-)

Ah, memories. Early in 1990, after the Romanian revolution of 1989, we got rations like these as an aid (probably) from Germany. I remember being amazed by all he goodies in the box (I was eigth years old). And they were good, too (most of them, that is; some of them, like the tablets and the coffee I didn't really care for :D ). My grandmother kept the cardboard box for years after that. Thanks for this trip down memory lane.

I watched this while eating a pork bbq plate from a local fund raiser. And I enjoyed both.
