"I'd say it behind your back but my car only got half a tank of gas!"
Will forever be my favorite.

Married With Children is coming back as an animated series. You can get away with more in a cartoon. The original actors will be voicing their characters.

Everyone says "You could never make this now!" after laughing hysterically.

That tells me we could and _should_ .

Why should we let the most sensitive and easily offended among us be the gatekeepers of permissible comedy?

The more uptight the world becomes, the more there needs to be an equal but opposite counter-force to that.

Look, this is basic Newtonian comedy. 😁

the good old days when people had a sense of humor

The woman that played Marcy wrote a lot of the jokes in their scenes together.
The heavy women he encountered were also comedians and wrote a lot of the material as well.

Cut the video short before the last joke! This was must watch TV back in 95! I remember trying to put my son to sleep, but he would pop his head up whenever that time played

Something that a lot of people don't know is that every woman on the show that Al insulted was actually a comedian and helped come up with the joke insults. I remember reading somewhere that Amanda Bearse, the woman who played Marcie, actually wrote a lot of the insults that Al used against her character.

“Married With Children” was on American television on Sunday nights at 9pm from 1987-1997. It was extremely popular, but there were also millions who hated it, some even tried to get taken off the air.
It was popular in many countries. My relatives in Sweden, Norway & Australia watched it too. When I was on vacation in Japan in 2010 it was on tv there as well, and instead of having Japanese subtitles they had Japanese actors dub the all the voices. It was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen on tv, just picture Al insulting a fat woman and instead of his deep and slow voice it a very hyper and loud Japanese male voice.

oh, Lord I still remember watching this with a squadron of guys on the first floor, after coming back from Desert Storm every Sunday night, and dying laughing. If there is anyway to rewatch the enter series, I would suggest doing that.

You can't watch something as great as Married with Children in this context. You have to know the characters to truly appreciate the jokes.

Second observation. The character of Marcy, the next door neighbor, was often called a "chicken" by Al on the show. He frequently stated how she looked and shrieked like a chicken, and thus a lot of the jokes and comments he made towards her in the episodes reflected this. From the "Why did you cross the road?" to feather electrolysis, and beak removal, as well as "mistook cries of 'pluck me' to the butcher". Her character was portrayed as a feminist on the show. The actor who played Al, Ed O'Neill, and the actress who played Marcy, Amanda Bearse, became estranged quickly and began lobbing insults at one another. IRL Amanda Bearse came out as a lesbian, and became even more of a feminazi, much more than her character. Early seasons of the show, Marcy was Married to one guy, Steve Rhoades, and had a different softer look. She was known as Marcy Rhoades. Then one season, he leaves her, they get divorced, and her character wakes up married to another guy. Jefferson D'Arcy, who seems to be a white-collar criminal. Then she was called Marcy D'Arcy. I think he married her to help try to alleviate some of his debt. It has been a while since I've seen this part of the show to confirm it. She soon cut her hair short and began dressing differently. On the show, Al mentions how much more she looks like a boy now with her new look, and thus jokes about mistaking her for a male are frequent, as evidenced by some of his insults you've witnessed.

Just imagine, katey Segal who played Peggy . Went on to play Gemma Teller in Sons Of Anarchy. I think that's crazy. Such completely different roles.

My favorites are when he was making fun of his wife:

Peggy: "Al, who would you rather have lunch with? A, ) your wife, or B;)..."
Al: "B"!!!!

Peggy: "Hey Al. Did you miss me?"
Al: "With every bullet so far."

Either way, it was a classic show. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Prior to acting days In 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, Bubba "Spare Tire" Dixon. #memorymonday. He was a fullback and actually got picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers as a free agent.
