I just woke up a week and a half ago. I was suddenly allergic to the cold. I’m 41 years old, born and raised in Pennsylvania. This is crazy. It itches and burns and super uncomfortable. Aveeno oatmeal bath is my best friend suddenly. Anyway, good luck to all of us suffering from this reaction. May we all grow out of it.

I am really glad this is getting attention, I am really tired of trying to explain this is a real thing and that I have it. And like a poster below, I've had this all my life and am just used to it.

I have the same allergic reaction too. I’ve had it for 7 years. It’s really tough because I always have to cover up in the winter. Hopefully I grow out of it and hopefully your son does too🙏

He's not alone, I'm allergic to the cold as well. Mine is severe enough that I react to a cool breeze or the fridge opening. I live in southern California and many people assume that I wouldn't react because of the weather here BUT for me, it's a difference in temperatures, not the actual temperature. Even summer days I'm at risk

Your poor little guy is not alone! I know how he feels, it's an annoyance, I was allergic to the cold when I was a young teenager. I got red itchy hives and swelling and in some cases it was harder to breathe and I also had wheezing. I would make sure to bring something like reactine before going outside. I hope his symptoms decrease as he gets older like it decreased for me. I think people all over the world can have these symptoms regardless where they live. I grew up in Canada, by lake Huron but the first time my cold allergy occurred was during my summer vacation in an outdoor swimming pool in Germany.

I’m 37 and I have had cold urticaria most my life. It’s super painful and I feel the older I get the more painful it is. It’s not just the super cold weather either. It’s a cool breeze, snow, rain… I can’t explain it, but I feel my insides are on fire and I instantly start rubbing my body because it’s feels so hot inside.

So no it does not disappear after 5 years!

I had this for about a year. First time it happened I was at work (grocery store), it was in wintertime and I just stepped outside to grab a wagon which was cold and by the time I got to the aisle I was working in my hands had turned red and were very itchy. And the thing about the freezer section happened to me. I opened a freezer door and the freezing air hit my shoes and my toes started itching. I was wearing sneakers that had mesh on the top near the toes. And just standing outside in the cold for too long made the tops of my ears itch! Also, I ws using a hose to spray my house once (not in the winter time) and I got some water on my hands and sure enough they got red and itchy. Walked home in the cold rain once and my hand (the one holding the umbrella up) was so red and itchy by the time I got home. So glad that is overwith.

I used to feel so weird just having an allergic reaction every time after entering a mall, being in any cold weather.. everyone around me would look at me so weirdly since this allergy isn’t talked about or discussed much. I’m 25 and have been having it since 9.

I have cold urticaria and I had a severe reaction when I went SWIMMING in cold water. My friends were convincing me to do it and they said, "You'll get used to it!" And I decided to try only for a bit. I sat in it, swam a bit, Then I felt weird, and I started to get hives all around my body. so, I got out of the pool. I started to feel dizzy and then everything turned purple and fuzzy! I fell onto the ground and almost passed out! Luckily, I'm aware of my allergy now and I at least try to stay away from cold stuff and often wear gloves when I am eating or drinking anything cold to prevent that from happening!
PS: Don't let your friends push you into something that you feel hesitant about and go with your gut! :)

Not having to constantly cover up those horrendous hives, and feeling that healthy, smooth skin is great! Besides from the hype surrounding it, there’s a really good chance that Shane Zormander's can help you as well, and expect to be hive free within weeks, not months.

I had this for two years form 17-19. It started suddenly, and then just stopped. It was so bad I'd get hives if I washed my hands and didn't dry them off completely, because the water evaporating cooled down my skin.

My husband is 60 years old and his first episode was about 4 years ago. If he gets out of the shower and the AC is on it can trigger hives and itching. One time this happened and he came to me and said he felt sick and there were a lot of hives on his back and stomach. He told me that he thought he would go to the ER. I almost didn't go with him but decided I would. Am I glad I did! We didn't get 3 miles from our house when it was like a profuse explosion of vomiting. Of course I was driving. He said he felt imminent death. He had me to call our daughter so he could tell her that he loved her. The ER dr gave him Epinephrine If I remember correctly. This allergy can cause you the same reactions as with a bee sting or a food allergy. Please know that this can happen at any age and, at any time.

It’s taken me a year to figure it out, why when it snows I seem to have such a bad allergies during the snow. Well i finally have. I have what’s called hypokalemia and when they spray salt all over the place to melt the snow I have a severe allergic reaction to all the salt in the environment because my body isn’t processing salt and fluids properly... This issue is associated with lack of Potassium and Magnesium and simply avoiding coffee sugar and salty foods along with some Potassiumand Magnesium supplements could greatly change how you feel. I don’t know much about this allergy to cold weather, but I do know reducing salt and sugar and diuretics along with taking a potassium and magnesium supplement has alleviated my symptoms. Might be something the rest of you coming here for winter allergies might want to look into. Good luck best wishes to those of you struggling with winter allergies.
