✨ you can find me here ✨

a little bit about me: hi, I'm august (she/her)! I am a self-proclaimed ~frugal old lady~ so all of the books you see on this channel are thrifted, from dollar tree or my local indie bookshop, kindly gifted, or from my lovely local library.

if you like longish videos where we just sit & chat about literature, old books, hidden gem thrift store finds, & books that fell under the radar (or were before our time), then we will definitely become friends!

Fun idea / challenge: for the True Tangerine short stories collection, since there is 31 chapters, you should pick a month that has 31 days and read one chapter every morning while drinking your cup of coffee as if you're there at a coffee shop having this conversion with that person! It could be an interesting reading experience (: I enjoy your channel btw <3

I just found your channel and am a fellow frugal old lady who is really old :) Your little painted wall art fits there just right. I also love the Dover editions...the William Morris like art is how I'd love to decorate my whole house! This book haul is so good and I know what you mean by Thrifting, it is like walking into a museum full of possibilities. Luv the edition of At the back of the North Wind! You will love the Hours...the writing is sublime. I have been reading Middlemarch for 1.5 yrs! So congrats for reading it properly...some smaller classics you may like: Cranford or Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell, A room with a view or Howard's End by E.M. Forster, The Odd Woman by George Gissing. I Also, since I've only watched 4 of your videos I don't know if you have read Patti Smith? Since you have musicians in your life...she is a must read! M Train, Just kids & Year of the Monkey are my favorites :) And if you can listen on Audio where she Narrates in her mesmerizing voice...ah it's golden sun.

I wasn't sure about reading poetry also. Then I found a book at my thrift store titled "How to Read a Poem and Fall in Love With Poetry by Edward Hirsch." Was a very helpful find for me. I love V. C. Andrews. Flowers in the Attic was the first one of her books i read. Can't say how you would feel about her books. 🤔

Hello from Sydney Australia. I love The Hours by Michael Cunningham. I have read it countless of times. When the movie first came out I brought the book and would read it as I was waiting for the movie to start. Lol. I am a big Virginia Woolf fan. I enjoy your vlogs.

I love your videos August!!! I love books, but I only ever buy the them thrifted or second hand (besides the odd book from the Dollar Tree or a bargain section find) and it’s easy to get swept up, especially spending a lot of time on booktube, and think that your shelves should contain shiny copies of the newest and most popular books. My shelves don’t look like that, and sometimes I start to think that they should. But then I find someone like you ( And Hannah Tay, another of my favorites) who shares the same affinity for old books with stories behind them, and pre-loved obscure titles that I do, and that just makes me happy!

There's something about VC Andrew's that's very addicting but I wouldn't say the books are well written. Flowers in the attic is definitely out dated but it involves really uncomfortable topics with a lack of social commentary. It reads like disturbing family drama for the sake of entertainment. At least from what I can remember but it's been many years since I've read any of their work lol

For anyone interested - 'The Hours' has a beautiful movie adaptation with Meryl Street, Nicole Kidman (as a wonderful portrayal of Virginia Woolf), Julianne Moore, and Ed Harris. It switches between the time period (modern and Virginia Woolfs life) so beautifully.
All the best x

There's a film adaptation of The Hours starring Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore, which I highly recommend watching after you've read the book!

I'm so glad to hear someone who shares my opinion on Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I read One Hundred Years of Solitude last year and it was BRUTAL. So much incest, rape, sex with minors etc. I couldn't get past it. I'm planning on Love in the Time of Cholera at some point, but it's a bummer to hear that it sounds like it shares the same issues as 100 Years.

Also - Francesca Lia Block is EVERYTHING. Love her so much. You'll love The Rose and the Beast.

I read that same edition of little women last year and loved it! I love Louisa May Alcott’s style of writing

Based on your love for literary descriptions of natural environments, I recommend Jane Eyre and Where the Crawdads Sing

Do you ever read ebooks? Kindle Unlimited has really interesting indie books for free and I have found a lot of gems that way! But always love seeing your book hauls. It’s always refreshing to watch your videos and not reading the same thing every Booktuber is reading.
