Should government jobs have mandatory retirement ages? Is it foolish to care about your legacy? And why did Jason always call Angela’s father “Dr. Lee”?

FOLLOW NO STUPID QUESTIONS:

ABOUT NO STUPID QUESTIONS:
Research psychologist Angela Duckworth (author of Grit) and tech and sports executive Mike Maughan really like to ask people questions, and they believe there’s no such thing as a stupid one. So they have a podcast where they can ask each other as many “stupid questions” as they want. New episodes each week.

ABOUT THE FREAKONOMICS RADIO NETWORK:
Freakonomics began as a book, which led to a blog, a documentary film, more books, a pair of pants, and in 2010, a podcast called Freakonomics Radio. Hosted by Stephen J. Dubner, it’s one of the most popular podcasts in the world, with a reputation for storytelling that is both rigorous and entertaining. Its archive of more than 500 episodes is available, for free, on any podcast app, and the show airs weekly on NPR stations. Freakonomics Radio is now the flagship show of the Freakonomics Radio Network, which includes the podcasts No Stupid Questions, People I (Mostly) Admire, and The Economics of Everyday Things.

Anyhow, I found this offensive. People decline differently as they age. If they can still work, and they like the work, and it’s safe for them to work, they should work. Frankly it’s none of your business to opine at them. I prefer to respect people who work when they are older than the average person.

Angela, you and I are the same age - you are not a little girl, even when you talk about your dad. Cognitive speed is helpful in a fight and on a timed math test… in life we need the wise people and they are the ones who understand the human experience enough to make laws. Most young people are too naive to keep order in society.

I work with older people and I do not understand how Angela doesn’t have more compassion for how hard aging is. It’s really quite hard and this episode felt insensitive and judgmental.
