So, what is the right bed height? Well, it really depends on the person. Taller people are going to want a high bed while shorter people are going to be better off with a low bed. Sitting near the edge of the bed, it should look like the legs are at close to a 90-degree angle. This will make it easy to get in and out of bed.

There are so many types of bed frames and foundations to choose from and they will give the bed a different height. For instance, platform beds are lower and will be better for short people and those who want a modern, sleek look in their bedroom.

Traditional beds with standard frames will need a boxspring, so they will be a bit taller. These are a good fit for people of pretty much any size and those who want a classic-looking bedroom. Antique beds are much higher and are a good match for taller people and those who want a classic look in their bedroom. Futons are going to be a better fit for guest rooms, but won’t be the best for taller people.

I've seen beds right on the floor for a 'zen' type look and that could be cozy, but I prefer to sleep up higher as it's easier to get out of bed in the morning haha

I have always liked a higher bed - even one on a platform. The only time when it became inconvenient is when I was 8 mos. pregnant! LOL!

In my experience the best bed height is the one that your wife is most comfortable with 😅

I do prefer lower beds, closer to the ground, connects you with the nature. Helps me to be more focused on my day. High beds are good for holidays, a lower one for a daily basis (for me) 👍🏻

Also a thought, when you sit on the edge of your bed, you will sink a bit which lowers the mattress height when it matters, so perhaps making your bed taller will still give you the right knee height with that in mind

Since I am tall, I like high beds. It also seems the thicker mattresses are more comfortable to me as well.

Great info. I prefer a high bed, a low bed does not feel comfortable to me, don't want to be so close to the ground.

I'm 5'10 and my bed is hip height. I didn't mean for it to be so tall but I needed storage and a mattress topper. I love it though and I find it easy to get in and out of bed.

A bed that is higher is definitely the way to go. Because when you get up in the middle of the night to go pee the last thing you want to be doing is lifting your body up doing any exercise you just hop out of bed and go pee and then roll back in

I’m 5’ 8” and my bed is 28” high. I like sleeping high. My feet are planted flat when i sit at the edge of my bed so no problem there and 14” of storage space is great

Thanks. I've got a new frame and needed information on comfort and design. BTW, I'm not buying one, but I'm short and love to climb up onto an antique bed. They look luxurious.

Thank you. I’m 5.2 feet & my bed is comfortable to sleep on it, however, I have difficulty getting on and off. The explanations you give is excellent . Thanks.

I have one mattress in my house that sits on a platform bed, my bed however is on what I would guess is a more traditional style bed, with a box spring and large mattress. I happen to like sleeping a little higher off the ground, but I don't think it affects my sleep. I'm tempted to measure the distance from the floor, but I know that with this mattress is too high for my 7 pound dog to jump onto. That may have helped my sleep more than anything else.

Thanks for this topic, I never even thought of considering bed height!

I heard that a higher bed height will make it easier for someone with mobility problems to get out of bed as you're closer to standing and it's less effort to slide out of bed, was hoping you might demonstrate that. Also, tip I heard from bob & brad, it's easier for someone with lower back or back pain to roll out of bed, then to do a sit up in the morning as it'll keep the spine straighter when doing so.

I'm only 6'4" and used to have a traditional innerspring mattress with box spring on an old school metal frame. Then, I switched to a 10" latex mattress that sits on a platform bed (no foundation or box spring) and it's definitely lower. I don't love it, but it's not as low as some low profile platform beds I've seen. Would prefer to sleep higher. But, to be honest, once you are lying down it doesn't really matter. It's more a matter of getting in and out of bed and sitting on the edge where the height matters.

Hmm who else went to their own bed to check if the bed was the right height....or is it just me? I didnt even think about all this when purchasing my bed or mattress. Great job

I came here after buying a Robot Vacuum. The height I needed is for the Vac to move easily under the bed. But it is better to rethink and learn more about beds and if the highrise bed is better for air flow eaither cooling or hygienically.
