How can one be a qualified political analyst when you base your prediction on emotion and wistful thinking?

He owned it to be fair.

A lot of pundits ignore times they've been wrong and learn nothing from it. Rory is unusual in having some capacity for self reflection within the pundit class

His predictions were wrong for two simple reasons: the Democrat candidate was crap and the Democrat policies sucked.

I don't think it's helps the political divide in the world making a video scolding Rory for getting it wrong. For a Tory he's actually a pretty decent guy. There's nothing wrong really with hoping for an outcome that says we live in a decent world, it just turns out we actually don't.

How about going after the pollsters instead? Did any pollster predict Trump to win the popular vote?

This is a cheap shot guys. Honestly why make videos like this. Rory actually has insightful and nuanced takes on politics regardless of his stance on the political spectrum. I dislike the constant gloating on this channel.

He allowed his emotions to influence his prediction.
And when proved wrong, he explained that emotional reaction and his mis-guess.
As his reason is valid and ultimately very human, why are we beating up on him?

Never liked him, but that was a decent call.

As an Australian listener and a big fan of the channel, I generally love your content. However, this particular topic feels quite smug and somewhat misaligned. Much of the criticism you’re directing at Rory for his predictions—and questioning his credibility as a political pundit—could just as easily be applied to Novara Media. After all, you’re media personalities as well. What makes you any more qualified than Rory? Your viewers choose to trust and align with your perspectives, just as Rory’s do with his. He made a clearly wrong prediction, yes, but he also explained his reasoning behind it. Rather than focusing on the mistake itself, it would be more constructive to address why he was wrong and discuss the factors that led to it.

I know some people are saying that this is unnecessary gloating but I think Dalia's analysis is honestly fair and interesting and this doesn't feel harshly focused on Stewart. I listen to The Rest is Politics and do value their perspective and it made me hopeful for this election, so him being so wildly wrong and the reasons for that are a valid thing to interrogate and it does reveal the massive gaps in understanding and analysis from similar analysts.

Turns out this out-of-touch British aristocracy doesn’t know jack shit about young Black men. What a shocker.

This could be the most pointless and unnecessary piece Novara has ever done. Plenty of pundits got it wrong, qualified and unqualified.

I don't think this spiteful jeering is really useful, helpful, or informative. Some dude made a prediction, and was wrong, and y'all are devoting 7 minutes to scolding him for it?
He was wrong, he owned up to it, and he looked at where he went wrong.

This just doesn't seem like an appropriate use of Novara's time, especially in the aftermath of an election that's going to have devastating consequences for the marginalised peoples in the US.

"I'm an optimist" - Typical neolibral attitude. Time to be a realist.

ever since seeing my first Rory Stewart clip I've had him filed under "tterminally overrated" in my mind. His take on the genocide is all one needs with this guy.

I haven't the heart to tell him there's no Father

I dont like any of those people on that podcast, but I think this is just unfair. The polls were close, most analysts were sitting on the fence, and understandably he made a prediction based off of "optimistic" feelings. Then he just admitted he was wrong and that was flawed, I feel like this is kinda just finding a reason to hate these people, when there are plenty of really good criticisms to make of them

None want to say, it's her fault. Blaming the people for not voting for a genociding failure... Lol like that's on us.

What a stupid video. And Michael, saying…now…that you told someone you thought Trump would win makes you sound like a prat. As your guest claims, a political analyst needs to make calls - you didn’t even make a call and here you are analysing politics.

African Americans are less than 20% and to bargain that the young African American males is to rely on a relatively small partition of the demographics. That was a naive part of his prediction.

Rory eats the very propaganda that he and his colleagues produce. Its pathetic.
