James O'Brien caller slams 'psychotic government' over flood response

This James O'Brien caller said her 150 acre maize farm has been fully flooded for months and yet the "psychotic government" who have "thrown up" EU food trade agreements haven't helped at all.

Liz's farm has been flooded since October and her husband, who has lived there for 61 years, says this bout of water is "unprecedented." They have received no help from the authorities, which James called "insane."

"We have had relentless rain here- as soon as the levels drop and you think maybe it's going to dry out, they're back again," she said.

"That's like an anxiety dream, that's like psychological torture," James said, observing she encapsulated notion of relentless hope being the thing that gets you down, not the despair.

"I went to see 1917 the other day and I pretty much related to that feeling because walking on this farm is pretty much like that," she said, sharing that 150 acres of maize has been lost which left them £60,000 down.

LOL ! Let's blame the 3mnth old government and especially Boris for 70yrs of neglect to our flood defences as well as buying a home near a river with a 500yr old history of flooding and not paying the extra £150 a yr to cover yourselves with flood insurance. Blame Boris lol.

Maize is generally sown mid-April time and harvesting is carried out towards the end of September or into October. It is currently February, I don't think the caller is telling the truth.

I'm not a farmer, but it is currently winter and planting starts in the spring. So how could she lose a maize crop when it was harvested last August?

Build a reservoir like most farms with flooding problems, then you are ready for droughts and floods

I have just retired, worked on three farms in my working life 26yrs 22yr on last farm for four years, I see both side of the farming game, this wet weather started soon after our wheat harvest, fields got wetter and wetter so our maize fields would not carry the machinery to harvest. Maize is cut late season for sillage. Just as it looked like it was drying up down came the rain again. Up here in north yorks just look around no winter crops drilled. Fields covered in water you cannot drill into mud. The problem is its raining more, people should look around more this weather is no joke its serious.

No billionaires were harmed during the floods, so the government does not need to do anything. Plus the politicians need to spend their time preparing insults to use against each other in their play room.

Flooding was worse when we had large snowfalls. When in melted quickly you had severe floods. Now the ground just gets saturated. There is not the large amount of water stored as snow in the uplands
