People talk over each other all the time now it's actually become normal. I HATE it. It's why I prefer to text now. I keep talking all the time and they don't care. I even say "I was answering your question but you starting talking over me so I have no idea what you heard". Don't repeat, don't add anymore to the conversation
I no longer have any patience for people who talk over me. It's SO disrespectful.

I always remember a line from Pulp Fiction. Uma Thurman’s character asks John Travolta if “he actually listens to what people are saying or does he just wait for his turn to speak”
He replies honestly saying he just waits for his turn to speak but he’s trying really hard to be a better listener.
I always thought that was a great line.

Talking over someone is such a sign of disrespect. My ultimate pet peeve. It tells me you dont care what I have to say so I just wont talk to you.

#3 you yawn if someone is watching you

When somebody starts talking over you, don’t lose your temper. Stop in mid sentence, wait til they stop, then resume exactly where you left off. If they do this again, you do this again. After the fourth interruption, don’t blow up, or don’t make any emotion at all. Just get up and leave. Even if it’s in the middle of a meal or another thing (like a card game ) and Don’t look over your shoulder. You know it’s a game of power play, and they are trying your upset you. Just walk away as they are still blathering. The next time you see them, ignore ignore ignore. Act natural.

I’ve used #4 so many times…Plenty of practice with my parents, to cut the apron strings…it is my default…I don’t even argue with people ever…I politely listen then let the silence hang there. The other person usually changes their tune to avoid that silence. Very effective tool for dealing with people of all ages. Involves zero energy on my part.

I once had a boss who only came up to my shoulder and whenever he started picking at my work, I would just stand up to my full height and look down at him while listening to him. Just doing this would often make him back down. It surprised me how effective it was as a tall woman.
