There's something surreal about dancing to this song. Pearl Jam have this incredible knack of presenting really dark themes wrapped in an upbeat tempo to the point where you sing along and even dance about dark subject matter.

It's a ballad about a woman in an abusive relationship, trying to build up the courage she used to have to break up with her partner because there's no love there anymore. Then when he comes home, her courage falters, and it ends in a bleak place. Instead of lying to her partner that she loves him, because that's no longer sufficient, she starts to lie to herself that she loves him, and that she could never find a better man than him, and so through self-deception she remains locked in a loveless and abusive relationship.
