The potential problem with the phrase “everything in moderation”

You have unconditional permission to eat all foods. Period.

Now, before someone comments “It is not okay to eat everything in sight 24/7! That is so unhealthy” - that is not what unconditional permission will lead to, at least not forever. Yeah, when you are first making peace with food, you might find that you eat previously “forbidden” foods past a comfortable level of fullness. But this doesn’t last forever. Eventually, as that food(s) becomes neutralized, you will find that you don’t have the urge to eat it “24/7”.

Permission to eat shouldn’t be a controversial concept, but it is, largely as a result of diet culture always telling us to limit how much is eaten. And always trying to eat as little as possible is only going to backfire.

Intuitive eating completely changed my life, I got healed. I feel better. Totally agree and I love your content.

My biggest tip was seeing all food as an experiment, not listening to anyone how food affects me, but only my body how it reacts.

Then it came to me that for a long time I was eating food that I didnt even like only because by nutritionist and influencers it was presented as best thing ever.. good luck

I would have to say this works. I spent some time food journaling to realize things like why I eat or how I feel when I do. Then I decided I will eat what I want when I want, because most of my over eating was about other people trying to get me to eat or I was worried about my weight so I'd try to moderate. I've lost almost 40 lbs, by not giving a f*** about anything other than my needs and wants where food is concerned. I eat a lot sometimes, some days almost nothing, sweets happen when I want them. I do what I want now and seem to be healthier for it.

I thought you were going to improve on the ideas of the phrase and take it to the next level, but you somehow took it down a level. Somehow you ended up with the conclusion that nothing has any consequences, the only thing that is real is stigma and emotions. That’s some hyper-feminine bullshit if I’ve ever heard it.

No, a better expansion on the phrase “everything in moderation” would be that some things are easier to eliminate entirely than to moderate. Other things, regardless of ease, shouldn’t be had even in moderation (some things are straight-up poisonous). Also, some things you don’t really need to moderate in any notable way (ie: water).

But nope, somehow none of that mattered, and all you thought of was “value judgments about diet make people feel bad, and therefore they are wrong.”

Your “compassion” has no virtue, it is just a reflex. If you actually cared about people you would tell them the truth, not what makes them feel good.

Moderation is not restricting its stating a fact, to much of one thing is a bad thing. Lots of sugar leads to diabetes, lots of alcohol leads of organ failure, lots of drugs have different effects on the body depending on the drug. Moderation is a good thing, you let yourself have a sweet or whatever you want but you dont go overboard. Personally my genetics means i can eat 10k calories a day and not gain weight which for most people is the exact opposite for most people. In my life i have had doctors get mad at me for “not eating” and working out. I can eat 15 meals in a day and not gain weight, this means i have to watch what i eat or i can literally end up with life long medical problems. If i splurge out on sugars and get diabetes im screwed thats just one example
