Unfortunately video doesn't capture the full effect of the steep height of the bridge. You feel it in your body, not unlike a steep roller coaster drop and at the top viewing nothing but sky on incline. I'm 66 and have had nightmares about crossing this bridge since I was a kid.

I remember when I first saw that bridge back in 2001 from the distance and I was like hell no let me turn around. Kept going. This video doesn’t really do it justice.

Ain’t no damn way I’m going over that bridge!

I bet it's scarier in person. I'd be crying the entire time, and I would never drive over it. I'd be under the seat.

I'm originally from Orange; drove over that bridge one too many times when it was much narrower as a two-way. This video brings back those memories from the 80s. Thanks!

Holy at the height of those guard rails!!! I live in Michigan where he have the Mackinaw Bridge - 5-mile long suspensio bridge 200-foot above the water. Years ago a lady in a tiny compact car literally got blown off the thing in some high winds. No way could I drive across this thing. Bridges have always bothered me and it's gotten worse as I've gotten older.

The old Nice bridge from Maryland into Virginia is an old steep, two lane road with no shoulders. However, a new four lane span is currently under construction.

I drove across that bridge many years ago. It was pouring down and I had a panic attack. Never do that again 😢

If I go across I repeat the Rosary until I get off.

Many years ago this was a 2 lane bridge before the new bridge was built. Many people died on this bridge back then.

Those are some seriously low railings. Does the obviously newer cable stay span in the other direction have higher railings?

There should be an exit ramp for people with acrophobia to avoid the ridiculous height of that bridge.
Acrophobia is not a laughing matter.

Used to go over it daily to work in Port Arthur..never thought too much about it being scary...but I guess it could be if you dont like heights.

I never knew about this bridge (or apparently others in Texas) but I have, for most of my adult life, had recurring dreams of taking trips to Texas (where I’ve never been) and getting freaked out on steep up roads.

Exactly where is this bridge located in Texas? It's scary because it's a very narrow two lane bridge. If I had to, I'd probably cross it, but only if I had to.

For maximum effect you have to go across during a squall while pulling an empty 53' dry box....buckle up. Besides, it has a solid road deck unlike a lot of causeways. No wind whistling up from below the vehicle.

Oh god I have fear of heights and had to cross a bridge like that over the Mississippi from Illinois to St. Louis. It kept going up and up and up and when I got near the top I couldn't see down the other side, it looked like I was going to be launched out into open air. I put my flashers on and slowed to a crawl, annoying all the other drivers that were flying past at 80mph haha but I didn't care. It was just so scary.

This one not too bad compared to the one from Port Aransas going into Corpus Christi

This bridge isn't bad at all. Growing up in Port Arthur, I've gotten used to this real fast 😅
