Yes That's how you do it! Get friends that join and support you! I have 2 friends who have two different things. My guy friend cross dresses and wants to wear makeup but is afraid so I always encourage him to wear makeup and women's clothing. Then I go to the store or out to eat with him.
My other friend she's super shy. I'm shy but like she's so shy. I have to talk for her sometimes. She's also afraid to carry feminine products or things that could possibly embarrass her so I'll either carry it or push it in the cart for her. Because we're all humans and females need feminine products so I give off an I don't care vibe to people who do look at me and my friends.

You speak the truth! Don't forget to be positive and not judge a book by it's cover! You don't know what someone else is going through until you walk in their shoes!!
