Those working on AI need to stop making ludicrous claims like this. I understand they are excited about what they are working on, and yes, it's impressive, but making claims that couldn't possibly be true like this just hurts the reputation of the companies that they work for, and makes people less likely to believe it when they actually do accomplish something incredible. Current LLM's are not much more than your smart phone's auto-complete feature. They have just added the ability to ask questions, and they've ramped the technology up to the Nth degree, and trained it on an enormous data set. When you ask an LLM a question there is zero cognitive thought. It's not wondering how to answer you. It's not thinking about what you asked. It's literally just looking up the most probable word one after another given the context of your question. AGI isn't even a remote possibility using the current technology. We won't see AGI until they start developing cognitive models. We will continue to see better, and better AI, and it may get so good that we decide it's close enough, and call it AGI even though it's not, but we won't see true AGI without a cognitive model. True cognitive AGI can think, reason, ponder, question, remember, and express ideas.
