My impression (as a software developer) is that most users, even power users, are still unaware of this. If someone asks for BIM data, the received file may or may not contain the needed informations.
So the power of IFC is also its users biggest weakness - to exchange the wrong informations.
Please explain in more detail how users in different roles should provide/request and how to control this in openBIM and other software.

Just tried changing the filename.ifc to filename.ifcjson, but it didn't switch to the json format. Is there any part that I should try to make this work? Thanks, good contents.

Are IFC classes for civil engineering in planning?
Like a lot of things, ifc seems to be very architecture focused.

We create custom ifc propertysets for our elements and attach them. The only connection is the guid, but the elements dont know what they are, it loses the object based/oriented character. It does the job but you cant use the full potential.Broken down, it`s not more than a geometry with a "stupid" text file attached.
