This crab has its tail, or “telson” broken off. The telson is not dangerous either.

I love how a non-lethal animal like this is one of the oldest surviving species.

I love how they look like Lovecraftian nightmare creatures, yet are super docile and chill. Always cool to see one

I love how frantically it looks like it's trying to grab your hand and flip itself over, and as soon as you help it, they just sit there, content.

Horseshoe crabs have blood that's actually blue. Their blood is one of the most powerful chemoreceptors, natural or synthetic, and is heavily used in medical testing. Not only are they harmless they're legitimately one of the most valuable species to medical research on the planet.

“Okay cool but please flip me over already”

I love horseshoe crabs. I used to think their tail was for stinging since it looked like a stingray’s tail, but later I found out it’s just for helping them flip themselves upright and for helping them up or down. Truly incredible, the living fossils they are.

I like how you are casually being hugged by a 40 million year old creature

This video is perfect. It goes straight to the point, no unnecessary intros or "a brief history of crabs and crablike creatures". Just a crab and a hand and some empirical testing.

Remember that this thing has barely changed at all over millions of years.
It is the supreme animal

I honestly thought there was a punchline where the crab bites hard into your hand, but nope just a cute crab wanting to flip over.
Very informative video you’ve earned yourself a sub

They save lives in the medical sector, are cute, are physically incapable of hurting you AND they have barley changed in about 440 ish million years. Love these little guys.

Horshoe crabs are actually one if the most safest animals in the sea that look terrifying and they are more related to scorpion and arachnids than crabs, they also have blue blood!

Edit: bruh why so many likes
