If the fourth generation antigen-antibody test and the ELISA test are negative at 4.5, 5.5 and 6 months can the person be free of HIV infection? Assuming no further exposures like unprotected sex or needle stick exposure or sharing needles with someone else then certainly if your combination test is negative after a period of 3 months of exposure you can safely assume that you are HIV negative. HIV1, HIV2 antibody test, is negative after 6 months is also safe to assume that you are HIV negative.
