To answer your mario kart 64 question (and even the predecessor for the SNES):
Yes there was a point. Each character had a different value for top-speed, acceleration, and weight (I never figured out of weight was an actual third value for stealing balloons, or if it was the expression of the other 2 combined - but I am fairly sure it was a real value). ie. Bowser and DK were slow characters that accelerated slowly, but once you got up to speed you were faster than all other characters (which also meant handling became worse/harder). And as I mentioned, once you got up to speed then crashing into an opponent let you steal a balloon (ie. through using a mushroom). And iirc only the 'heavy' characters were capable of naturally reaching the speeds needed for that (no mushroom needed).

No clue if stats like "handling" or "grip" were values yet (or just expressions of your current speed), like they became in later iterations.

The achievement for petting Cerberus in Hades can only be done one at a time. In order to pet them again, you have to make another run of the gauntlet. Meaning it can take a minimum of 5hrs if you are actually trying to win AND petting them every time you get back home.

I forgot that Skyrim and Skyword Sword released on the same day. I only had a vague idea of what Skyrim was at the time, but looking back, I am extremely glad I was there for Skyward Sword. If I had gotten Skyrim on that day, it would have been the PS3 version. Also, Skyword Sword was a great game; I will die on this hill.

Fun fact about the WiiU issue is that the marketing is what really failed them. Most people thought the U was just the pad with the screen, not entirely new hardware, so were put off by the price for just a peripheral

Overcooked is at its best when everyone playing it is on edge so you have the pressure of if you make a mistake your whole squad is going to start screaming like chimpanzees until you fix it and then everything is cool again until somebody else messes up

Around 8:23, this reminded me of when I found out that my Wii isn't backwards compatible with the GameCube games. It sucks because there are some games that I wanted to play but can't since Nintendo decided to stop the Wii compatibility for Wii's that came after October 2011 and for any colored Wii's.
