In honor of Black History Month, I am sharing African-American names that you may not know but, have played an important role throughout black history. As I scrolled through YouTube this morning, my 9 year old said, “Mom, THAT’S Bessie Coleman! We learned about her in school.”

She then went on to tell me all about Bessie’s courageous accomplishments. She also shared stories of other historical figures from African American community and their lasting impact on the world.

Tears welled up in my eyes as she recited the unforgettable words spoken by Dr. King during his, “I have a Dream.”

Thanks for sharing Bessie’s story Steve! You provided the basis for a thoughtful and heartfelt conversation on the significance of Black History Month. 💜
